I started my blog over 8.5 years ago, with zero intention of taking it anywhere, other than to keep my family informed of my whereabouts as I lived out of state. Since then it has transitioned into something more for me. Yes, it is still a creative outlet for me to share my (growing) family with family, both near and far; but it’s also turned into opportunities for me.
First, I’ve met so many amazing people via the blogging community. Also, I’ve had the opportunity to work with amazing growing brands that I love, and to help them reach people they may otherwise not have a reach to.
I recently had the opportunity to read and review Influencer Marketing for Dummies, a book written by the Founders of Clever Girls, an influencer marketing agency that connects top brands with influential women online. According to the authors of the book, “Influencer marketing is the art and science of engaging people who are influential online to share brand messaging with their audience in the form of sponsored content.”
Basically, if you have ever been on the internet, you’ve at least seen Influencer Marketing in action — whether it be on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or blogs. And if you run a business, large or small, you likely use influencer marketing. If not, you should be!
Sure, this book is written for people in marketing, it’s a useful tool for those of us actively engaged in the influencer market! When I started out as an influence marketer, I had to learn the hard way — with some less-than-stellar brands without a clear vision. Luckily, I’ve stumbled and learned a lot on my own over the years (plus it helps to have networks of bloggers to reach out to for assistance).
Some of the most useful information from the book is honestly the most obvious:
Start with women. Women influence most purchasing decisions in US households. So regardless of what’s being sold, appealing to women is important.
Find people who create great content. Specifically, people who engage with their audience.
Pay influencers for their time and effort. Good content means a real effort by the influencer. And it’s worth the brand’s time and resources to pay their influencers.
After reading this book from cover to cover, I can honestly say that it is a great resource, both for influence marketers and businesses. As an influence marketer, it’s important to have some sort of literature on hand to remind yourself of the real value of the service you’re providing.
I’m giving away 1 copy of Influencer Marketing for Dummies! Enter by using the rafflecopter widget below! Winner must be age 18+ and a resident of the US.
