get fit! // fitness update

July 19, 2013 by Rachel 2 Comments

First things first //

I’m running the Color Me Rad race on August 17th 2013. I couldn’t be MORE excited! I’ve been looking for a race like this so when I found out they were coming to Akron I jumped on board!!

** Get 20% off your registration to Color Me Rad by using the code “HERO“!! **

The code is valid for the first FIVE people who register!

So hurry!!

Last week //

Life was too crazy for me to post about my fitness update, but I promise, I was keeping track!

I weighed in last Tuesday the 9th. I actually gained a pound. [[ sad face ]]

I know that not every week will be a loss, and that occasionally I will have ‘off’ weeks and ‘off weigh ins — and last week just happened to be one of them.

I hesitate to even weigh myself once a week, even know I know it’s part of the “plan” of weight watchers. I just know how I’m prone to obsess over it. Ugh.

But I got over it. I didn’t dwell. I moved on.

And this past Tuesday I weighed myself again.

I lost that pound AND an additional 1.5 pounds!! 🙂

Workouts //

I worked my butt off. I went to two hot yoga classes and ran 3 times last week. One of which was a 5k!

And this Tuesday I weighed in again! — Lost that gained pound. Plus I lost another 1.5!

Food //

I’m not eating unhealthy, by any means. We never really have eaten unhealthy. But considering today is Friday, I have to admit that this week has been rough. I’ve been stressed. And I’ve been totally slacking on counting my points. Cause sometimes a gal needs a twizzler and a beer! Ha! But I know that I’m actually going to get back on track when we leave for vacation tomorrow.

Running //

So not only did I just finish my first 5k in years, but I’m officially signed up for 4 more races from now until September.

And I’m actually considering signing up for the Hot Chocolate 15k and the Rock N Roll Cleveland Mini Marathon on October 6th — what better way to ring in my last year of my 20s?! (My birthday is October 5th!)

Vacation //

Most people fear that they will eat like crap and not workout during vacay. But we’re going to be in a house with a kitchen, so I know we’re going to eat like we always do at home. Sure, we’ll go get Mexican food from my fave place ever one day; but that’s one day; one meal. And the golf course we’re staying on is going to be perfect for long runs!

This is going to be the most relaxing vacation EVER!

I realize I’m not setting any sort of record for fastest weight loss, but I’m doing what works for me right now. I’m comfortable losing weight the healthy way and a way that works for my family and our lifestyle. <3

Yoga Rocks The Park // Giveaway!

July 16, 2013 by Rachel 2 Comments

Guys — if there are two things that I love, it’s yoga and being outside.

So you can imagine my excitement for practicing yoga OUTDOORS!

Seriously, if you’ve never practiced yoga outside, it’s amazing! And Northeast Ohio is lucky enough to be part of a community that’s mission is to bring yoga to communities all over the United States — Yoga Rocks the Park!

“Yoga Rocks the Park is not just a weekly event, it’s a movement to bring a sense of peace and joy to communities throughout the country. We want to celebrate communities that are thriving in a unified sense of family and wellness, and are having fun doing it. We are thrilled to have expanded the YRP Movement into 14 cities across the U.S. with more cities to be announced soon!” says Erik Vienneau, YRP’s Founder.

Yoga Rocks the Park Cleveland happens right in Lincoln Park in Tremont on Saturday & Sunday mornings throughout the summer. The cost is $12 in advance or $15 the day of. Best yet? Classes taught by amazing local teachers are accompanied by live music!

I’m giving away TWO passes to Yoga Rocks the Park, taught by our own Alicia at Poise In Parma on July 27th!

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS FOR SAT 7/27: Events are rain or shine thanks to the YRP CLE sponsor Merrick House:

  • 9:30 am Registration Opens

get fit! // changing it up

July 12, 2013 by Rachel Leave a Comment

I know that it’s easy to get stuck in a fitness rut. I go through weeks where I 100% look forward to my workouts and then there are weeks when I just cannot wait to run/yoga/hit the gym.

Well recently Pretty Muddy Columbus teamed up with My FitU, and as a Pretty Muddy Blogger, I have the opportunity to try out the My FitU program.

MyFitU logo

My FitU was developed by Kenny Chesney’s personal trainer, Daniel Meng. The program is completely customizable to fit each persons schedule, eating habits and lifestyle.

I’m hoping to use this program to alternate my running, cardio days and strength training days so that I’m well-prepared for my upcoming races — including the Pretty Muddy Women’s 5k!

I’ve noticed that I get to points in my training runs where I just feel completely worn out. So I’d really love to get to a fitness level where my strength and endurance are enhanced because of the complimentary strength training.

I’ve already downloaded the iPhone app to track my workouts and progress and to work with the plan uniquely designed for me and my goals. I can’t wait to include this training in my fitness updates and monitor my progress.

I only accept brand opportunities to write about things I love and would normally buy on my own. For my participation, I’ve received a 3-month membership to MyFitU.com through PrettyMuddyWomensRun.com.

Minted.com // Review

May 5, 2013 by Rachel Leave a Comment

In the last 12 months I’ve announced a pregnancy, engagement, elopement and baby arrival. We’ve been busy, y’all!

And in the last 12 months I’ve planned and partied and planned and partied.

Planning for major life events = sending out lots of invitations and saving lots of memories via photographs.

Over the next year, I’ll be assisting in the planning of my sisters nuptials. And the Minted Wedding Invitations are classy, simple and downright adorable! I’ve sent a number of them over to her as ideas and inspiration!

I’m also obsessed with their photo calendars and baby books. In fact, I’m anxiously awaiting my Baby Journal — Eat, Sleep, Poop. Even though I document most on this blog, there’s something to be said about putting pen to paper. I’ll cherish the beautiful journal, featuring Ari’s face, forever.

you are the joy - minted

I’m also considering having this print made up. It means “You are the joy of my life” and I think it would make a perfect addition to his nursery!

I’m pretty much obsessed with the customized options available and all of the styles on Minted.com.

Disclosure: I was offered a credit to minted.com for an honest review of their products. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
