Midweek Mantra //

December 4, 2013 by Rachel 1 Comment

My December Fit Challenge is underway! So it feels appropriate to do a midweek check in! Gotta hold myself accountable, right!??

ABM_1386125447

Here’s what my workouts have looked like thus far:

Sunday — my workout was a head-to-toe cleaning marathon while Chad took Ari to the airport and grocery store! I sweated up a STORM! And then had a beautiful house to show for it.
Monday — 3.5 mile run during my lunch break!
Tuesday — yoga stretches! It was an easy day, but I still managed to fit in some hip openers.
Wednesday — today I’ve scheduled a lunch break run again! This time my goal is 5 miles. I know I can do it. The weather is supposed to be perfect and I have an audiobook queued up and ready to go!

Truthfully one of the reasons I started this challenge is because I seem to struggle, not because of the holidays, but because of the darkness. So so so much darkness. When I get home from work and feed Ari and put him to bed, the only thing I want to do is snuggle up on the couch and fall asleep. And truth — 99% of the time, I’m in PJs and ready for bed by the time I put Ari to bed. So I find ways to fit in workouts whenever I can. Even if that means running on my lunch break; even if that means ‘washing up’ in a sink after to make sure my coworkers aren’t completely disgusted by me; even if that means doing crunches in the living room while catching up on the DVR.

It’s true — the only workout I ever regret is the one that I don’t do. So I hope this post inspires you to hold yourself accountable; I hope it makes you feel like YOU can move too. Let’s do this!

So What! Wednesday

November 6, 2013 by Rachel 4 Comments

I’m linking up this Wednesday with Shannon from Life After I Dew, another local Ohio blogger, to say SO WHAT if…

… I’ve recently become addicted to The Walking Dead. I’ve been terrified of zombies since before I can remember. I know, I know, … what adult is afraid of zombies!? THIS GAL. But I started watching this season of The Walking Dead with Chad, and it’s completely tolerable. I’ve even picked “favorite” characters. Ha!

… I have neglected my Jawbone Up for the last month. I’m finally back on the wagon (all it needed was a charge!) and I’m ready to count those steps! Oh, and the sleep tracker is mega helpful too!

… I can already tell that the highlight of my week is going to end up being Ari’s weekly Wee Tumbler gymnastics class on Saturday mornings. I mean, there’s hardly any ‘gymnastics’ involved (I didn’t really think there would be), but there is lots of energy spent! Which is my main goal! And?? Baby laughter! TONS of it.

… I’m super excited about Christmas this year. It’s usually a holiday that causes me some panic because of how ‘busy’ it is. But this year we have almost zero on our holiday to-do list! And Ari is going to be old enough to really enjoy it! Hooray!

… I look forward to that solo hour I spend at Target about once a week. I stroll through the aisles slowly, looking for deals, sipping on my latte. Perfection!

  • I’m obsessed with “Orange Is The New Black” on Netflix. OMG so good. Ya know what? Gotta hand it to ya, Netflix! First was House of Cards; now Orange is the New Black. Netflix is totally rockin’ it lately.
  • the best part of vacation is not having any of our regular “home” responsibilities. Funny thing is? We still have the normal upkeep of  a house, since we’re staying at my aunts vacation home; but it just isn’t our home. And my mind totally knows that! Want me to make the bed? Sure! Laundry? No prob! But at home, these simple chores are something I dread. Obviously vacation makes everything better.
  • I’m super bummed that our Toms Zulily order is going to be delivered while we’re on vacay. I totally hoped that they’d be delivered before we left. 🙁 But, upside? We will have Toms waiting for us!! Thank goodness for neighbors who will pick up and hide our deliveries!
  • our vacation is consisting of doing pretty much nothing. It’s perfect that way.
  • it’s kinda nice to not have had to weigh in yesterday. I searched high and low for a scale in this house, but I can’t find it. Ohhhh, darn! 😉

  • I miss cancelled HBO + Showtime shows. Like Big Love. And Entourage. Gotta love a show with a character named Ari. 😉
  • I haven’t had a haircut in months. I swear, I’ve had “make a hair appointment” on my to-do list for the last few months now. I’ve just been, well, busy.
  • my newest obsession is “Orange Is The New Black” — a Netflix Original series. It’s funny and adorable.
  • my obsession with Honest Diapers is out of control. They are adorable and eco-friendly! And they are shipped to our house! One less trip to Target! (let’s face it — there’s still at least one trip a week!)
  • I’m overly excited about going on our first family vacation in just a few short days. We desperately need to get away from the “real” world and kinda just spend some time together being a family of three.

  • I’m beyond excited that Pretty Little Liars is back on! Last night I was giddy at the sound of the music! And I don’t care if you judge me for this. I love this completely mindless show.
  • one of the proudest moments of the last couple of months has been having both of my hands painted simultaneously. Usually only one set of nails gets painted before I get pulled into another direction [cough-cough — Ari].
  • I never posted Ari’s 7-month update. Or his 8-month update. Ya know what happens when you have an 8-month old?? Nothing. Well, nothing but chasing him around. So yeah. Pretty much our lives are consumed by chasing Babycakes around.
  • the highlight of my work day is going for runs on my lunch break. I know I could be doing work, but I’ve been totally looking forward to that time spent on the trail with just my running shoes and my music. When I get back to the office, I realize that office politics and drama are not at all what life is about.
  • we’re quickly loading up our summer social calendar! I don’t want to avoid doing fun things just because we have a baby. And I don’t necessarily want to leave him behind; I’d rather him have fun and experience fun things with us! Like festivals, parties, etc. Having a baby doesn’t mean staying at home!
  • few things make me happier than a sleeping baby, a freshly cleaned house, and an ice cold beer. It’s the simple things, folks!

  • I’ve watched 9 episodes of American Horror Story on Netflix in 3 days.  It’s not scary and it’s mildly entertaining while I’m pumping. Works for me.
  • I try to motivate myself to get to the gym in the early morning by convincing myself that I’ll feel better afterward. And it’s true. I feel way better after working out. photo (64)
  • even after setting those alarms last night, I couldn’t get up. I think I’m having some fatigue issues. But I’m not looking forward to going to the doctor for it. 🙁
  • Chad and I are convinced that our kid is the cutest of all time. He recently started to ‘dance’ on command. It’s hilarious and freakin’ adorable!httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p73SUMJII4Y
  • I’m overly excited about having a three day weekend both this weekend and next! Which makes for a 3 day work week next week! Woooo hooooo!
  • our dates consist of an early dinner and a trip to Home Depot. I love it. 🙂
  • I’ve been obsessed with window shopping for patio furniture. We’re not ready to purchase it yet, but I can’t wait to find the perfect set. [Umm, I sound scary domesticated in this So What Wednesday post… LOL].
