christmas wrap up //

December 27, 2013 by Rachel 2 Comments

Exhausted. That should be the end of this blog post.

I’m half joking. But only half.

Our Christmas festivities started at the Christmas Eve celebration with Chad’s family. Ari was a champ. He seemed hesitant for half a second before I set him down. Aaaaand then he was off! He tore through the house like he owned the place, ate lots of food, and giggled up a storm. It was adorable, if I do say so myself! πŸ™‚

We spent our evening, surrounded by family, laughing, sipping wine and eating delicious snacks! Ari tore apart his presents, which was incredibly awesome. I had spent weeks saying “No, Ari. Don’t touch!” about the gifts under our tree, so I was worried when I finally gave him the go-ahead that he would be like, “uhhh??” But that wasn’t the case. Tore.Them. UP!

We didn’t end up getting home until 12:30am Christmas morning. And we hadn’t even put together 2 of Ari’s Little Tikes gifts. (if you follow me on Instagram then you can see how our first attempt at putting together a wagon went… or as we now refer to it, the sled with wheels…).

So off to bed Ari went, and up ’til 2am we were! Ha! Lucky for us, this go around with Little Tikes went surprisingly better — and faster! And Ari slept until just before 9 that morning. — Yet another Christmas miracle.

He was a bit overwhelmed by the scene in our living room — in fact, we all were. It was a mess of toys and boxes. He was quite hesitant but finally started playing with his kitchen set, but quickly got distracted by real food (kid loves to eat). We had to take a nap before starting to open presents again.

Sidenote: I checked our camera yesterday and found that every single picture we took with our DSLR was corrupt. Not sure what’s wrong with it (probably our SD card), but I’m completely sad that I didn’t get any good pictures — all we have are phone pictures! Oh well – just another reminder that it really is about the moments; not about the pictures as proof.

This is as much of the wagon that we could get together.
We have a replacement coming, but Ari didn’t seem to mind.
This is literally ALL that would fit.

By the time he woke up from his nap Auntie Shauna & Uncle Jimmy (my sister & future BIL) were here to see him! We opened more gifts and we stopped moving slowly with Ari’s gifts. Ha. Short-lived. Instead Shauna & I just started tearing through the gifts for him. It worked out much better that way. πŸ™‚ And then we finally got to exchange gifts amongst each other! Here are my awesome gifts from my sister & BIL:

All local Columbus products, from top to bottom: Stinky Bomb Soap Ohio shaped soap; The Candle Lab, Hops Scented Soy Candle; and Columbus Barrel Co coaster/candle holder! She knows me so well. πŸ˜‰

And here are a few of the gifts from my awesome husband! He knows me equally as well! πŸ™‚

Yep, that is the (not-so-secret) nerd in me! The Walking Dead board game + Star Trek Blu Ray. And of course, a new pair of Mizuno Wave Riders!

As fun as exchanging gifts was, it felt good to be done and to settle in to some serious family time. #BabyAri played with his new toys until he couldn’t take it anymore (ok, let’s face it — until mom & dad couldn’t face it anymore!).

I’m happy that my awesome husband took the next two days off to recuperate. πŸ™‚ Which made it easier for me to go back to work (and do practically nothing because no one else was working). And now this weekend, mama recuperates πŸ˜‰

merrychristmas

Hope you’re spending this day with your family!

My teeny family of 3 will be camped out in front of our Christmas tree this morning!
I’m beyond excited to watch Ari’s reaction to this Santa nonsense.

Lamb, sweet potatoes, and quinoa on the menu;
skyping with family in distant places;
and a quick visit from my sister;
are all the plans we have for this day!

<3

weekly mantra //

December 23, 2013 by Rachel Leave a Comment

I feel like my time away from social media over the last week and a half did wonders for me. I didn’t give it up cold turkey, but I definitely cut back significantly.

And look! It’s almost Christmas now! I needed that time to catch up on sleep (which I did — MANY pre-8PM bedtimes for this mama last week!), keep the house clean, and finish up on pre-Christmas to-dos!

I’m now going into this Christmas Eve Eve with only ONE item on my Christmas to-do list! And it feels great!

keep-calm-its-nearly-christmas-42

So for the next 36 hours you can bet I’ll be focused on the holidays! I may be working, but I’m counting down the hours until I get to see Ari react to Santa visiting our house! πŸ™‚

Wherever you are and whatever you’re doing, soak up these moments!! It’s nearly Christmas!! πŸ™‚

A Tattoo.
Preferably this one.
‘It’s always darkest before the dawn.’

ABM_1386987195

Mizuno Running Shoes.
These Mizuno Wave Rider 16’s to be exact.
In this color.
I already have these in the pink/salmon color, but they are b-e-a-t! I love the way they feel.
I think it’s the first shoe that has not induced pain when running.

ABM_1386987325

A Fitbit Force.
I love my Jawbone Up, but I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t intrigued by having
a watch and a pedometer visible throughout the day.
Plus wireless syncing! That’s a huge bonus.

ABM_1387673975

Trader Joes Gift Card.
LOVE me some TJs! ‘Nuff said!

ABM_1387673938

Gift card for a massage/mani-pedi/dinner for one.
Ha!
From my fave salon, Charles Scott in Rocky River, of course!

ABM_1387673790

A calendar from Etsy.
I especially love this one from Row House.

ABM_1387673754

Faux Taxidermy.Β
Don’t judge. I love it.
Would I ever want real deer antlers in our house?
No way. But this is too cute!
There’s a whole area devoted to faux taxidermy on Etsy.
Who would’ve thought!?
And this one is from Banana Tree Studios!

ABM_1387677293

An E-Gift Certificate to Wine & Canvas.
Cause who wouldn’t love a fun night out, getting crafty + sipping on wine!?

ABM_1387678728

the Humans Of New York book.
Must.
If you don’t follow this blog, you totally need to.

What’s on your love list this Christmas Eve?? πŸ™‚

Midweek Mantra //

December 4, 2013 by Rachel 1 Comment

large (9)

My December Fit Challenge is underway! So it feels appropriate to do a midweek check in! Gotta hold myself accountable, right!??

ABM_1386125447

Here’s what my workouts have looked like thus far:

Sunday — my workout was a head-to-toe cleaning marathon while Chad took Ari to the airport and grocery store! I sweated up a STORM! And then had a beautiful house to show for it.
Monday — 3.5 mile run during my lunch break!
Tuesday — yoga stretches! It was an easy day, but I still managed to fit in some hip openers.
Wednesday — today I’ve scheduled a lunch break run again! This time my goal is 5 miles. I know I can do it. The weather is supposed to be perfect and I have an audiobook queued up and ready to go!

Truthfully one of the reasons I started this challenge is because I seem to struggle, not because of the holidays, but because of the darkness. So so so much darkness. When I get home from work and feed Ari and put him to bed, the only thing I want to do is snuggle up on the couch and fall asleep. And truth — 99% of the time, I’m in PJs and ready for bed by the time I put Ari to bed. So I find ways to fit in workouts whenever I can. Even if that means running on my lunch break; even if that means ‘washing up’ in a sink after to make sure my coworkers aren’t completely disgusted by me; even if that means doing crunches in the living room while catching up on the DVR.

It’s true — the only workout I ever regret is the one that I don’t do. So I hope this post inspires you to hold yourself accountable; I hope it makes you feel like YOU can move too. Let’s do this!

December, I’ve got BIG plans for you.

December 2, 2013 by Rachel 2 Comments

I’m not certain that the words “I’m so excited for December” have been uttered from my mouth since I was a kid. Wait – scratch that. Probably in college when I wanted to go home for break. Regardless, this year is bound to be far more exciting than any other December for our household!

Christmas //Β

I’m having way too much fun buying Christmas presents this year. I’m trying not to go too crazy with toys for #BabyAri. I know that he’ll be super confused by the whole Christmas tree and present thing still, but it’s going to be so fun seeing his face light up when he gets his wagon from Santa!

My husband on the other hand is quite possibly THE hardest person to shop for. I know you’re probably thinking “no my husband is,” but I promise you, I’ve got you beat. And I’m not just saying that. Because if he wants something, he just gets it. I can’t even be like “Oh ya know what he’d like — a machete!” No. Cause he already bought it himself. Not joking (so wish I was. But nope. We have a machete!). But I think I found a few things that he is going to love, thanks in large part to Crafty Mart Akron and the Pop Up Holiday shop!

DecFitChallenge

December Fit Challenge – also known as #DECFitChallenge //Β

You can join if you’d like, but my goal for this month is small, but mighty. December is my most difficult month to get out and get moving. So my goal is to do something — regardless of how small it may be — to break a sweat or get moving EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Whether that be an intense round of sit ups, P90x, yoga (at home or at a class), or running. Whatever. Just get moving!

If you’re up for it, I’m hoping you’ll get motivated with me! I’ll host a link up and check in every few days, both here and on my Facebook page!

Parties, Events, and MORE Parties! //Β

This month is full of busy — but it’s busy fun! I’m running two races (both this weekend), hosting family at our house for a weekend, visiting with my sister-in-law who will be in town from Colorado, attending the Ohio Blogging Association Cookie Swap, two family Christmas parties, and at least two festivals!

Last but not least //

… I have a hair appointment! Which means one moms night out in the month of December! Hooooooray!! πŸ™‚ Seriously. I know it sounds crazy, but that one day or night out really keeps my sanity in tact. πŸ™‚
