let’s plan a party.

July 11, 2013 by Rachel 2 Comments

As if being a mom isn’t still shock enough, I have an almost one year old.

Seriously. In friggin’ shock right now. It’s been almost ONE year.

Okay, okay… I know I’m jumping the gun a little. Three months is a little far away, but the big day will be here before I know it!

So obviously I’ve been party planning already. A Yo Gabba Gabba party is a definite must.

He loves the Yo Gabba Gabba songs. His little round face just lights up at the sound of one of the songs. It’s totally adorbs.

I’ve thought about Pinteresting the crap out of this party. But I’m confident in the fact that, in doing so, I would be in over my head — and that I will ultimately just stress myself out. … enter Etsy…

Ari birthday plan

After stalking the crap out of everything Yo Gabba Gabba on Etsy, I’m super grateful for all of those super crafty people who make it a thousand times easier to plan a YGG party for a one-year old. PS. If you’re not a mom and/or have never seen an episode of crack Yo Gabba Gabba, here’s what you need to know:

  • It’s complete and utter nonsense.
  • Brobee is a grade-A nut-job. OK, maybe just a bit bipolar.
  • The phrase “There’s a party in my tummy!” and “I like fish!” will cause the cutest full-blown belly laughs.
  • your coworkers & spouse will grow to despise this show because you are always singing the songs.

Also, I realize it’s a bit excessive for a first birthday party, but I’m totally dying over this cake:

He needs it, am I right?? Ha! I know a place that would make it gluten free, healthy AND cute!

I know it’s *just* a first birthday… but there’s something to be said about keeping another human alive for a full  year, right??

get fit! // fitness update

July 5, 2013 by Rachel 1 Comment

I’m down another pound from last week! I’m hoping I can continue this trend.

Plus side? I haven’t been starving myself!

No, I wasn’t starving myself before… but being new to Weight Watchers made me nervous to use any of the weekly points or activity points. Now I know that I can spread the use of those points out throughout the week. It’s worked out fabulously.

I’ve been forcing myself to fit in workouts even when I would rather sleep [which lets face it — is most of the time]. My last three runs have been 4.5 miles, 4.5 miles and 5.5 miles! And last week I fit in one yoga class at Yoga Bliss plus a gym workout at Planet Fitness.

Things that are working for me:

– Scheduling my workouts. I put them in my planner; I schedule them on my iPhone; and I let my husband know my plans. If there are conflicts, I reschedule; if I know I’m not going to want to run after work, I fit in a run on my lunch break. And I enter my Activity Points into my WW app as I plan my workouts. That way I’m extra committed to earning those points!

– Running. Running is really working for me. I feel good. And most importantly, it clears my mind. It’s nice to get some time alone with my iPod and my thoughts and just go. In the last 30 days, I’ve run 62 miles! That’s 62 miles of clearing my head.

– Setting goals. I’m running my first post-baby 5k in 8 days. I’m excited and nervous! I have a love/hate relationship with racing. Eek! But the process of setting goals is just another step in holding myself accountable. 🙂 It also helps to be involved in programs like the Sweat Pink Ambassadors and the Pretty Muddy Bloggers.

I took this post-5.5 mile run selfie. I was proud of the fact that, not only did I run on the 4th of July, but I accidentally ran a mile longer than I intended to!

Goal Rewards:

Of course the “I Run This Body” shirt is sold out until further notice. 🙁 But I did recently purchase the Ohio Pub glasses. So I’m excited about that!

retail therapy

May 2, 2013 by Rachel 2 Comments

I could seriously use some retail therapy. But, since I’m too broke to actually spend money, I spend hours and hours window-shopping online. True Story.

But if I happen to find some extra money [or if some generous person decides to throw me an extra five-hundred dollars or so], I’ve pretty much got it all spent already. Here’s what would be on my immediate purchase list:

Ruffles With Love Etsy1

Totally want this shirt from Ruffles With Love shop on Etsy

Little Wooden Wonders1

Elephant Puzzle from Little Wooden Wonders shop on Etsy

Hello Fizz Pub Glass1

hello fizz eat local1

Both of these items from the Hello Fizz etsy shop!
Love that they’re local!

Haddon Co1

How cute is this mock-cardigan and bow-tie? WOULD DIE to see this on Ari!
via Haddon Co etsy shop.

Crazy Dog TShirts1

T-Rex Hates Chaturanga shirt from Crazy Dog TShirts.

toodlesnoodles wrapping paper1

all of this wrapping paper from Toodles Noodles Etsy shop.
Unfortunately, if I spent that much money on wrapping paper,
I wouldn’t be able to afford to give anyone a gift to wrap in it.

  • My mom came into town last night. I’m excited for a couple of reasons:

    1. She hasn’t been able to visit very much since January. She was here the first week I went back to work + then again a couple of weeks ago.

    2. Chad and I are going to go on a date while she’s here! Yep, another day date [evenings are still too exhausting and hectic for us]. It’s pretty awesome having her around.

  • This blog post about explaining gender to boys is something I have a feeling I’m going to relate to at some point. I’ll have to save this.
  • I kind of misplaced my kindle. I mean, I know it’s around here somewhere. But I have “stuff” scattered everywhere. I’m going to make it a point to find it this weekend.
  • Ari totally needs this Where the Wild Things Are print from Etsy store Olive and Birch:

  • We scored tickets to the Indians home opener this Monday, but we aren’t able to go. Luckily, we have tickets to the game next Saturday against the Chicago White Sox in the Indians Social Suite!
  • I have a three-day weekend. And it seriously couldn’t have come at a better time. I need Monday off in the worst way.
