Let me quickly set the stage — Ari wants to do a Fourth of July craft and I want to oblige. I mean, I’m a crafty mom, right? I do a quick pinterest search, locate a ‘firework’ paint craft, and gather our supplies. Easy peasey!
Or, it should have been. But guys — here’s the truth behind all of those cute, messy, Summer crafts — your children? They aren’t cute; they aren’t easy; but they are messy. And your toddler? They won’t care. Not even a little bit.
So I’m sharing with you what I learned the hard way. How to totally ruin messy Summer crafts in 4 simple steps.

Step 2. Set out the supplies, including the paint, and turn your back for approximately 5 seconds. (There’s a 99% chance your toddler has just stuck their hand in the paint)

Step 4. Grab your Viva Paper Towels and Clorox spray so that you can clean the mess (Toddler is now painting a tree. No, not painting a tree on the paper; like, literally painting the tree….)

This is so true (and so funny) when doing anything with toddlers. It never quite turns out the way you expected
Love this! There’s so many projects I could do with my youngest boy, but I know that there will be more of a mess than anything.. lol So usually I just pass on them all and he just sticks to making slime.. Which is pretty messy as well, but he has learned to clean his mess up or mom wont let him make it again. lol π
My biggest Pinterest fail was this craft project where you dip glasses into water with nail polish in it. It’s supposed to come out looking all mosaic and pretty with the nail polish color. Instead, it got all goopy or totally didn’t work. And, if the nail polish got on the inside of the cup, it was instantly no longer safe to use. #Fail
OMG! I’ve tried this one before and it turned out equally as bad! LOL
So your table needed a makeover. I totally understand where the artist is coming from. ?
Haha! Loved this! So very true…better embrace the use of the Clorox and Viva paper towels when the idea of paint, craft and small child are all said together ?
This is too funny. Although I’m willing to bet that he enjoyed himself and doesn’t mind that it didn’t come out like Pintrest said it should. Also, thank goodness for Clorox and Viva!
yep, kids pretty much could care less about what to do. They just want to do.
LOL! I’m the worst with Pinterest but, way to go!
I think crafting outside is a great idea! My kids like to really get into their crafts – which can mean a mess for Mom to clean up afterward.
hahahah I love you. This is awesome. “Pinning to try” π
This was too funny! Pinterest projects never turn out like the photos do for me! π
Our craft projects usually end in tears too! From all of us! Your little boy is adorable!
Haha! I just love this! We always end up ruining all the pinterest perfect crafts! We can never make it similar to the pinterest ones! And we love Clorox to clean our messes too!

Aww how cute! Pinterest makes everything look easy, and well … it’s not! haha
haha! amen! I have learned that when there are kids and crafts involved things don’t always go as planned!
You just gotta love this! Even simple crafts are likely to have some unexpected (?!) results. LOL
This is so funny! I can’t blame any on my kid yet, but I have failed at quite a few Pinterest crafts!
Yep, this is awesome! Luckily you found the right products to perform clean up duty!
Crafts can be so much fun, but it does seem like there’s always a bit of a mess to clean up! LOL! We manage to make big messes out of the smallest of projects.
Lol, this is the cutest! We have all messed up quite a few Pinterest projects, now haven’t we?
hahaha this is great & waaay too relatable! I usually epically fail when doing desserts…
I lol’d the whole time reading this post. It’s so true and relatable!!
Yes Yes Yes to the turning your back and the toddler putting her hand in the paint! I don’t even know how my daughter gets into the paint so fast!
Hahahaha I have had more Pinterest fails than I care to share.
This is too funny!! I love the in the end, he’s holding up his craft with pride. That’s really all the matters, right?! This was such a fun read. Thanks for sharing this!
‘toddler is now painting a tree….’ This post cracked me up! You did a great job!
I love this! He is rightfully holding his craft with pride!
No matter the mess, it’s still fun to do crafts with little kids!
LOL this made me laugh so hard! great read!
Lol this post was hilarious and extremely accurate!
Oh, the truth! This has happened more than once in our house.
Haha love this post! I don’t have kids ye, but from what I hear from my sis, this is extremely accurate in her house!
Those kids of yours are precious, love the expression of your daughter holding the viva…Priceless!
I have not tried the grocery pick up, I wonder if its at my Walmart. Love those rebates!

My kiddo doesn’t ruin Pinterest crafts as much as I do lol. Her stuff actually turns out pretty cute. Great post!
Aww he’s too cute! I enjoyed this post π
My biggest Pinterest fail with my daughter was trying to make slime. It was a mess! We cleaned it up with some paper towels. I Love Clorox bleach though!
Hahah I have such a hard time just letting my kids be kids when it comes to Pinterest crafts.. perfectionist problems!
Love this! Yes I’ve got several Pinterest fails so it’s not limited to kids. π
This is so hilarious and spot on! Haha my kids would do exactly this!
Oh my gosh, this is hilarious! Thank goodness for clorox!
I always fail at letting them just do what they are gonna do when making a craft. I am a perfectionist so I’m always trying to get them to do it the “right” way. But whatever they make I will love it!
Ha! I have totally been there with my son! Oh well, it’s the process that counts right? π
Haha, this is so hilarious! And I love Clorox, it’s the best!
Hilarious! I”m so glad my son is old enough to actually listen and help ;D
