The first day of the rest of your life. Why do people say this? What is this supposed to mean?
I count recall all of the times I’ve heard this phrase.
Kindergarten. “The first day of the rest of your life.”
Graduating high school. “The first day of the rest of your life.”
First day of college. “The first day of the rest of your life.”
College graduation. “The first day of the rest of your life.”
and then a few nights ago my father said something similar to me.
I was having a rough time. With the move, being apart from those I love, and the like. My dad said that he admired my courage. My courage to try something. To take a risk. Dare I say, the first day of the rest of my life.
No. I refuse. No single day can be the first day of the rest of my life. My life doesn’t begin nor does it end when I go through stages of life.
It’s a journey. And I’m gonna live it.
