Twenty-twenty will forever go down as the worst phrase of our generation. As a mom of young kids, one of the worst things ever is knowing that my kids know that something is going on. I mean, my 7 year old and my 4 year old both keep saying “…when COVID-19 is over, can we….?” And it absolutely breaks my heart. But we’re all doing the absolute best that we can given the circumstances. So I have made it my personal mission to let my kids know that Covid doesn’t have to stop the fun. And that’s why I’m making the most of quarantine Halloween!
Trick-or-no-treat?
Our city is still very much on the fence regarding trick-or-treating. But I am not. Our neighborhood gets really busy — which we have always welcomed. But this year I am less than thrilled about the potential for kids coming and going and pushing around. With a heavy heart we decided against traditional trick-or-treating this year. And, honestly, I think that’s what’s best. My kids will have another Halloween and trick-or-treat. But, Covid is a wildcard. And I couldn’t live with myself if something happened.
So what should we do?!
There are so many ways to make the most of Halloween. Kids don’t really care about trick-or-treating. Heck! My kids usually only last 15 minutes! But they do love celebrations — and candy! So that’s what we will do.
How we’re celebrating
We will still dress up. I will admit — I don’t like how much adults ‘love’ Halloween. I’ve always hated the idea of adult Halloween parties. But I will dress up this year for my kids. We will have a big at-home party! My kids and I will be setting up the most perfect candy charcuterie board for Halloween.
What you need for a candy charcuterie board
Assorted candies
Small containers
Large cutting board or platter
Candies may include:
Twizzlers
M&Ms
Candy Corn
Candy Pumpkins
Jelly Slugs
Halloween Pez
Bloody Bites
Spooky Lips Lollipops
Assorted snack size candies, wrapped or unwrapped
- Choose a board or serving dishes for the charcuterie board.
- Place loose ingredients (small candies, loose candies, etc.) into bowls or individual dishes. Place those bowls on the board or buffet first.
- Arrange other candies around the bowls.
- Add assorted tongs or Halloween decorations.
Tell me this…
How are you planning on making this the BEST Halloween ever for your kids?!

This is a great idea for this year’s Halloween because it’s still unclear on what is going to take place. I still want to dress up with my kiddos and celebrate either at home with a good movie or trick or treating!

Halloween will definetly be different this year but hopefully still meorable for our kids! We’re planning a Halloween/birthday party for our son who turns 4 on the 28th, with just our closest friends.

Great ideas. It’s really frustrating that we don’t have the usual celebration nowadays.

I agree with you. Buying them a lot of assorted candy will make the day.

What great ideas. We still plan on trick or treating, but we’ll have masks. Luckily our neighborhood is open to it. We’ll have candy too. I need to make one of these for movie nights!

These are great halloween ideas. Simple and to the point. Thanks for sharing!

I think I will let my boys go trick or treaing with friends. They will have masks on and will be outside so all will be okay

In Canada we aren’t allowed to go go but doing something at home is a good idea!! thanks for sharing this

Ohhh love this idea of a Halloween charcuterie board. We will be going camping one of those weekends but they have cancelled the trick or treating which is a bummer. But both of my boys are young enough that it won’t be a total meltdown. I hope you and your family have a great Halloween!

My best friend got an Airbnb and invited a few friends and family members over for a party! Her kids are 5&1 so the 5 year old knows about Halloween and was pretty bummed but the Airbnb made him so excited I think he forgot lol

Ok, I love this candy charcuterie board!! I’m definitely doing it, but not just for Halloween. I want to do it for every holiday!

I think it would be best to not have any trick or treat the normal way. IT’s safer and if we don’t do it this year, maybe next year we can go back to normal.

Halloween in quarantine can still be a lot of fun! You’ve proven that. 🙂

We dont celebrate halloween in India but this idea of quaratined Halloween sounds really cool. I hope people who celebrate Halloween get ideas from it!

I feel as if it’s safer to just stay in and watch Halloween/Horror movies, eat candy, and reel scary stories instead of the regular going out. But hopefully it’ll be over by next Halloween and see can enjoy it more. Thanks for sharing!

My kids and I plan on watching a scary movie with popcorn, and their favorite candies. We’ll deocrate a little bit for the month of Oct. to make it fun ; )
No trick or treating for us this year, not worth the risk of covid-19, plus we’re doing our part to help get rid of this illness.

I don’t celebrate halloween but doing something inside is a safe idea
