Leave It To The Pros // Why We Chose A Professionally Installed Home Security System

THIS POST IS SPONSORED BY GUARDIAN ALARM BUT THE CONTENT AND OPINIONS EXPRESSED HERE ARE MY OWN.

It’s hard to believe we’ve already been in our forever home for 7 months! We’ve done so much to make this house a home, but, funny enough, I have yet to hang up any photos or wall decor! I just can’t commit to the placement of things!

Besides not having anything hanging on our walls, the other major difference between this home and our old house was how we decided to protect our investment.

At the old house, we had a DIY home security system — comprised of some closed-circuit cameras which would record to a hard-drive. Unfortunately, we went on vacation at one point and had a security incident (which we didn’t find until we arrived back a week later). We revisited the camera footage only to have to sift through hours and hours and hours and find…. nothing. Nada. We never received any sort of closure or were able to report anything to the authorities.

Luckily, that was before kids. Now that we have three little ones, I want to do everything in my power to protect them and make them feel as safe as possible in our home. And that’s why we chose to have a professional home security system from Guardian Alarm.

Our local service team sent out an incredibly knowledgable technician, Megan, for our professional installation. Megan communicated everything she was doing as she was doing it. She walked me through where she was putting things and why she was doing them. Additionally, she helped me to set up all of our codes — the alarm, the keyless entry, the panic code — all of it!

Unlike our DIY home security set up, our Guardian Alarm system is monitored 24/7 — for fire, carbon monoxide, and break-ins; I have alerts set up to come to my phone if my children use a code to come in the house; I’m alerted if my 3-year-old opens the back door (she can be a bit of an escapee); plus, we get a discount on our homeowners’ insurance!

Do you know what our DIY system did? Recorded. Could we have set it up to alert us of certain things? Yes. Would that have prevented a break-in or notified the authorities? Nope.

This is why we decided to leave it to the Pros. Because my families safety and security is worth it.

There are things that you can do on your own but installing home security is something i would trust the professionals too. Security is important! And I’m glad you hired someone to do it 🙂

Girl, I can totally relate to the having a hard time committing to the placement of things. I felt the same way about our home at first. It’s kind of like ripping off a band-aid tho, you just gotta do it, lol! BTW, I didn’t realize Guardian Alarm alerted for carbon monoxide and fire too. That is definitely worth it!

I couldn’t agree more! There are some things you can attempt on your own, but others, like a security system, are best left to the professionals!

Is this a sponsored post? Because if it isn’t, it should be!

I am so bad about home security – maybe it’s because I grew up in the country where everyone left their doors unlocked all the time. 🙂

      It is! 🙂

And it’s hard because we were the same way growing up. But there is just SO much foot traffic at our new house. There are TWO parks within 50 yards of our property AND a school with a giant parking lot. Plus, with our large yard now, we sometimes have people randomly walking through it?? it’s so strange. But I truly do feel so much more safe with our Guardian Alarm system.

We moved to an older neighborhood 10 years ago not realizing how quickly the demographics change. Now we are looking for security and this found me at just the right place.

Having kids definitely changes how you view security. Even stuff like where their bedrooms are and how the furniture is positioned!

      Hi
      You’re spot on Jorden!

We have glass dining tables and they are made from tempered glass so they don’t shatter in case of any accidents. And they have curved edges to prevent the kids from getting poked or worst still, stabbed when running around.
Security and home health and safety is something you start getting more serious about as you grow older and when you have children, It’s a must for any parent.

      BTW Rachel, excellent blog!

I don’t think I could trust myself to set up a DIY home security system. I called the company that was recommended to me in my area to set my system up. Your home is lovely.

Once my husband and I purchase a home I would love to invest in a security system like this. I love that it also gets you a discount on homeowner’s insurance, win-win!

It is important to feel secure on your own home, and you should always trust a professional with it. I am lucky to live in a community that has its own security guards that are always passing by and are one call away if something happens.

I hear you on the struggle to commit to wall hangings LOL! As for home security, that’s the 1st thing I’ll be doing when we move to the burbs!! Here in NYC i feel safe(ish) way up high in our locked apartment building, but a house, ohhhh no, I’m scared!! And you’re right, you need it professionally done for sure!!

Feeling secure in your own home is so important. Trusting a professional is how it should be. We have surveillance cameras, but don’t have an alarm yet.
