Introducing Solids with Gerber Cereals //

As a first time mom, I had super high (and super unrealistic) expectations of how I would ‘mom.’ You know the drill… those who aren’t moms seem to have all the answers. I was no exception.

With Ari we did Baby Led Weaning (BLW). At the time, he had very little interest in food. So, honestly, it was easy. And I swore up and down that I would exclusively use that method. But the more that he wanted to eat, the more realistic my life became.

So honestly, I didn’t even attempt BLW with Remy Bea. Girlfriend has been grabbing at my food for months now. We waited until just after she turned 6 months to starting solids. And ever since, she has been eating about 6 jars of food a day (!!!!).

BLW or not, one of the most important lessons I learned from my experience with Ari was that it’s important to let our babies try to feed themselves. So recently I picked up a variety of GERBER CEREALS from Walmart to thicken up her purees (and bonus? just two servings of GERBER CEREALS per day is 90% of her daily Iron requirements!).

Her favorite flavor, by far, is the Oatmeal & Banana Cereal, which I mix in with peaches, pears, and apples! The cereal mixed with her purees create just the right level of ‘thickness’ to where we can focus on other developmental milestones — like learning to use a spoon for the first time!

Per the advice of lots of other Mamas, we are using Num Num self feeder spoons! Sure, it’s still a little messy! But that’s how they learn and grow, right!?

Honestly, it isn’t as messy as one would think! Sure, half of it ends up on her; but the combination of the toddler cereal and the spoon help as much of the food as possible actually make it into her mouth! Ha!

g2
We’ve got a long road ahead of us in regards to learning, growing, and developing, but at least I can rest easy knowing that I’m feeding her the most nutritious foods and she’s getting all of her necessary vitamins. That in itself is a huge weight off of my shoulders!

Today’s post is sponsored by Gerber, but my love for their cereal options is all my own

Head to Walmart and pick up some GERBER CEREAL to try for yourself!
