I’m still alive.

At least I think I’m still alive.

I’m definitely sleep deprived. And quite emotional. I’ve been trying to piece together Ari’s birth story & other happenings, but lately laundry, dishes, feelings and exhaustion have taken priority.

Luckily it feels like everyday we figure things out just a little more.

Fingers crossed I get this baby and life thing figured out soon.

I will speak from my few extra days of experience on this. There is no routine. Once you get the baby figured out, he/she will change it up on you. Screw the dishes. Let people bring you food (we haven’t cooked once since coming home) and use paper plates or the dishwasher (if you have one). I have to go to a baby shower next weekend for 3 of my residents who are also pregnant and they’re all getting gift certificates to take-out places. Visitors won’t care about your personal or household state of messiness. Try and take a walk outside with the baby. The fresh air is good for him and the sense of freedom is good for you. Kiss and snuggle your baby when he’s not screaming like a howler monkey for hunger/diaper/missing you/some personal sense of having been wronged but can’t tell you what for. Hand the baby off to your partner when you really just need to sit in the bathroom and pee and cry in peace.

That’s a smidgen of what I’ve learned in the last 12 days. Email me if you want so we can commiserate together. 🙂

Don’t rush it. It’s okay to be all crazy emotional..like crying for no reason. Hormones are all over the place (of course, it’s bad if you want to hurt yourself or him). I remember crying for no reason and my husband just staring at me. It just comes with the territory. And so does the feeling of not being able to catch up and being lost, etc:)

I love what Beth said. Krystyn too. I’m an obsessive compulsive clean freak & my house has looked like a bomb hit it since my son was born. And we’re surviving. 🙂
I love this: http://maggielane.wordpress.com/bedroom-3/baby/ (hopefully the link works) & printed out the words to hang on my fridge. “Cleaning & scrubbing can wait for tomorrow for babies grow up we’ve learned to our sorrow. So quiet down cobwebs, dust go to sleep, I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.” Hopefully you’re able to get some rest, some great cuddles from Ari and go to the bathroom & pee in peace.
