I have a confession to make. I could truly not care less about sports. I jokingly refer to it as “sportsball.” Truly, though, I do like live sports. That is, if for nothing more than the delicious food! But, because we have young kids, we rarely make it to live sporting events anymore. That doesn’t stop me from making delicious recipes at home for the big game. And this Game Day Jalapeño Poppers recipe is an easy and delicious crowd-favorite!
What You’ll need to make these Poppers
Unlike some of my other recipes, you won’t need any fancy gadgets like an Instant Pot or an air fryer. Nope. For these all you’ll need is a sheet pan and the following ingredients:
- 1 pound of ground breakfast sausage – mild or spicy
- 12 ounces of cream cheese
- 12 Jalapeños
- 12 strips of center cut bacon
- 2-3 tablespoons of brown sugar
That’s it! Be sure to wear gloves when you’re prepping the jalapeños! And, for varying levels of spice, you can leave some seeds in the peppers.
How to make Game Day Jalapeño Poppers
Game Day Jalapeño Poppers
Ingredients
- 1 pound of ground breakfast sausage - mild or spicy
- 12 ounces of cream cheese
- 12 Jalapeños
- 12 strips of center cut bacon
- 2-3 tablespoons of brown sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375° F.
- Brown sausage over medium high heat, and drain the fat.
- Add cream cheese to the sausage mix and stir until well blended and melted. Set aside.
- Cut the stems from jalapeños, slice jalapeño lengthwise down the center and remove seeds (recommend using food prep gloves to avoid absorbing the jalapeño heat).
- Slice the 12 pieces of bacon in half (for wrapping the jalapeño).
- Using a small spoon, scoop the sausage and cream cheese mix into each jalapeño popper.
- Wrap each jalapeño with 1 slice of the halved bacon, place on baking sheet.
Two rows of 12 with jalapeños touching works best. - Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the poppers (mostly on the bacon).
- Bake for 45-55 minutes at 375° until the jalapeños become soft and the bacon has browned.
- Let cool slightly.
- Serve and enjoy!
