{ dreaming of a first christmas }

It’s crazy to think that Christmas is next week — holy crap! Even though Ari won’t remember his first Christmas, Chad + I will. So I guess this Christmas is a bit more about us as first time parents than it is about him.

It will probably be the last time we both have the holidays off, so we’ve decided to spend a week in Kentucky with my parents. Hopefully the snow storm we are in the midst of getting doesn’t prevent us from leaving on our big adventure this afternoon.

Really the only thing that is important to me this holiday season is spending time with family and creating first Christmas memories.

And so I have a confession… or 4.

We didn’t bother to get a Christmas tree. Why? Because we won’t be here and Ari won’t remember that we didn’t have one.

I wrapped one of the baby shower gifts to give to Ari for Christmas. Why? Because he’ll never know. And it saves me a trip to Babies R Us.

I did end up buying him a toy or two, but it was super last minute and mostly because it was on sale. Why? Because he won’t remember.

I haven’t bothered to send out Christmas cards. Why? Because it’s not a priority.

Ya know why it isn’t a priority? Because we are busy being a family these days. I’m savoring what little time I have left of maternity leave, and, to be honest? being a mom is straight up exhausting. Any time I do have, I’m busy trying to regain any sort of normalcy in our lives; trying to establish a bit of a routine. And flat out trying to keep it together.

christmas-1

So after we take Ari to his 2-month well-baby checkup this morning, I’ll be packing up the car with all of the crazy baby belongings [seriously, how do babies have so much stuff? Ha!], and we’ll be going to see Mimi + Papi in Kentucky. Where I’m sure we’ll eat lots of yummy food and make plenty of first Christmas memories.

    Enjoy this first holiday season with your son and family! And you are doing exactly what every new mom should do…take advantage of every single minute you have together as a family, don’t worry about the small things, and drink wine in the early afternoon! Merry Christmas!!
