Yes, ladies, I went grocery shopping and bought mostly all grown-up food!
Why is this a change from my normal routine? No, I don’t eat fast food (besides my Chick-Fil-A addiction, and there isn’t a CFA for hundreds of miles), but I usually eat what’s easy: fresh fruits and veggies, hummus, you know, stuff I don’t have to cook.
Some of you may know that I’m what people like to refer to as “domestically challenged.” But I’m working on becoming my own little Martha Stewart version of me. I’ve been gathering up recipes (some of which I’ve found your blogs). So I made my list of real food groceries. For real people recipes. And so I went.
Oh.my.gosh.how.do.you.do.it! I am exhausted now! I mean, I usually go grocery shopping, but BF does all of the hard stuff… like picking out food. I usually stand around, stare at the Starbucks ice cream in the cooler, stare at people, you know… easy stuff. It took me forever to find all that I needed and get out of there.
I managed to escape in one piece. I made it home and put all of my groceries away. I was starving.
So I ate Lucky Charms for dinner.
True story.

I applaud you! Who says you have to cook and buy “real” food b/c you are a woman. Tonight, I dreaded cooking and had Taco Bell for dinner. Screw those who judge, it is their problem, not mine.

Hahah, I would totally do the same thing! π

It takes practice, I promise it gets better with time.
I make a list of every ingredient that I need prior to going to the grocery store, mainly so I don't purchase duplicate products and also so I won't forget anything.
Once I have a list, I'm on a misson in the grocery store. Knowing what you need is half the battle! It prevents me from going down aisles that I do need to travel and adding things to my cart that I never intended to buy!
Finally, I do most of the prep for my dinners prior to the time I plan on cooking them i.e. chopping veggies, browing meat, grating cheese, it helps quicken the dinner making process.
Remember, practice makes perfect!

Been there. Done that. π

I need to learn to cook real food! And I have been known to have cereal for dinner π
Meg
That's my kind of dinner!
I cook sometimes, but I get so frustrated because I'm, well, kind of bad at it. I'm only going to cook so many chicken breasts into moon rocks before I give up and eat something out of a can, you know?

Whoop! Nice job, I would choose the Lucky Charms after such hard work too. Maybe tomorrow night you can try the actual cooking part. :]

hehe, “real people recipes”.
what are you planning to make in the future? see, i am also domestically challenged. i mean, i love food and i love the idea of cooking…
but i'd rather eat the food than make it. you know?
and i see absolutely nothing wrong with cereal for dinner.
especially cereal that comes in brightly colored boxes with cartoons on the front panel.
(ahem. i'm a count chocula fan.)

Grocery shopping is exhausting! I usually go and stock up for the week, but then I'm too tired to make anything, so I go and pick something up – then make things with my lovely groceries the next few days! It's all just too much sometimes. I think I need a personal chef!
Travel & Dive Girl
Funny! I find grocery shopping to be the most tedious domestic chore ever. The worst part is bringing it home and having to put it away. Ughh…I would seriously rather clean toilets.

congratulations onf your grown-up food purchases!
It's hard to get in that mode. I do well for a few weeks then out of the blue I find myself in line at McDonalds.
Gwen
I think we've all be so tired after grocery shopping that we end up eating a bowl of cereal for dinner. I'm proud of you for going though. It gets easier with time. π XOXO

LOL! You make me laugh. We're going to make Martha out of you yet! π I plan my menu for the next week every Friday after work. Then I look at everything I need, see what I have on hand, see what I need & make my list. I know where everything is now in the stores & I fly right through. You'll be a pro in no time!
~**Dawn**~
Oh & nothing says you can't put things on your menu that are super easy. Like cereal night. π
Krystyn
It is definitely old for me. Mostly because it's more of a chore then fun. I cook because we have to eat.
Molly
Good for you! I love grocery shopping. π
I honestly eat Lucky Charms everytime my hubby is out of town. I can't muster up the strength to cook for myself. Ha!
Kassie
this seriously cracked me up. even though i LOVE cooking, i cant' tell you how many times i've come home and eaten cereal…it's the best dinner.
Lil' Woman
Big Man is the cook in this house so I just stand around and look pretty during grocery shopping too…but I am going to TRY to start cooking…we'll see how that goes! π

I LOVE cereal for dinner! Hubby hates it so I do it when he's not home π
Menu planning is hard, but it makes it easier in the long run – for me anyway.
I have some yummy recipes if you ever want any!
