Color Me Rad // 5k Wrap Up

One of the two 5ks I ran this past weekend was the Color Me Rad Akron 5k. I should disclose up front that I was offered two free entries to the race to promote it on Twitter/Facebook. And I was SO excited!

I asked my friend Gretchen (who also happens to be my yoga teacher and a new boy mom, too!) to run it with me!

Our team, the Sons of Mother Runners, consisted of just the two of us.

Thank you to Ruffles With Love for the personalized “Mother Runner” shirts!

I picked up my race packet from Derby Downs Museum on Friday during my lunch break. I had never been to Derby Downs, and it seemed like a really cool place, but I was a little put off during the packet pick up. The volunteers were downright rude and the energy was … foul. I thought, perhaps, it was just my personal observation, but Gretchen confirmed that she felt the same way during the packet pick up (note: we went separately).

But the energy was completely different come race day.

We arrived about an hour and 15 minutes before our heat was set to start, at the suggestion of staff. It was a bit too early, but honestly, I’d rather be early than late and rushed. Am I right??

Pre-race, the crowd of runners were pumped up, thanks to the staff on stage getting us all warmed up by doing burpees. I decided to pass on the burpees. I was exhausted enough thanks to a teething baby. Ha!

The course was fun and full of volunteers throwing colored corn starch in our direction. 🙂 I finished the race in 28 minutes and 28 seconds — not bad for a Mother Runner. 😉

Overall, I think the event was great. I wish that they had more energetic (and happier) volunteers for packet pick up. But that’s pretty much the only thing I would change.

I am so completely looking forward to running this race again next year. But next time?? Next time I’m going to kick some serious butt as far as my time is concerned.

Thank you, to the folks at Color Me Rad, for the free race entries and the discount codes given to my readers. I hope that all of you will join me next year! And if your town has yet to have their event?? Join. Join now!

** All opinions herein are my own. I was given two entries into the Color Me Rad Akron race to promote the event. **
