true story

did that just happen?

September 27, 2010 by Rachel 9 Comments

I’m not exactly the poster child for cooking meals from scratch. Well, truthfully, I’m not the poster child for cooking anything. Period. In fact, my idea of “making dinner” is picking up takeout from one place or another.

So I thought I was being punked yesterday as a fellow shopper in our local supermarket asked me {yes, me} a question about cooking.

The fact that she asked me {shock!} combined with the question itself, literally made me chuckle out loud.

Her question? “How do you cook those?”

To what was she referring?

Green beans.

True story.

After I realized she was serious, I hesitated and said “I steam them usually.”

And she asked, “So do you break of the ends?”

“Yes.”

“And break them in half?”

“No.”

And that was that.

And I’m still in shock. Did a 40-something year old woman just ask me how to make… green beans?!?

I still feel like she could not have been serious.

true story tuesday :: trainwrecks, employment and inception.

July 21, 2010 by Rachel 7 Comments

Last night we went to go see Inception for our $5 movie Monday date night at Plaza Cinemas. It.was.awesome. I left the theater in tears from emotion. I seriously think that everyone should go see that movie.

True story.
Three cans of Diet Dr. Pepper in one day is too many. Even if you’re trying to burp ’cause you have a stomach ache. I found this out today.

True story.

I am loving my new job! But I must finally publish a post that I’ve been trying to write for a while about how {and why} I spent the last two or so months “seeking opportunities.” It is much more difficult to talk about that one might think.

True story.
I make BF record and then watch the Bachelorette with me. At least, I thought I made him watch it with me… until I asked BF to fast forward through a part that was annoying me {one of the many Ally crying moments} and BF said “wait, I just want to see what happens.” WTF?? For real?! So excited. Someone must be enjoying this trainwreck as much as I. 😉

true story tuesday.

July 14, 2010 by Rachel 6 Comments

I am loving my new job! It’s different from the other industries I’ve been in, so I was a little nervous. But I love it and I love my co-workers.

True story.

I have not been able to sleep. Not a wink. I think it’s been the anxiety of this week.

True story.

But that hasn’t stopped me from crawling out of bed at 4:45am the last two mornings for yoga.

True story.

Yoga has kicked my boooo-tayyyy! And I’ve loved it.

True story.

I bought 4 pounds of blueberries at Whole Foods last Friday. I’m not sure why this is important, but I feel like it should be confessed.

True story.

We started week 3 of the Couch To 5k program today. And we ROCKED it.

True story.

The one and only thing I’m looking forward to right now is sleeping in this weekend and being a super lazy bum.

True story.
Baby showers are made for uncomfortable moments. Uncomfortable moments created by myself and my friends. ‘Cause we are clingy like that {that shouldn’t make sense. It’s not supposed to}.

happy “this feels like a monday” tuesday!

July 7, 2010 by Rachel 9 Comments

Hope everyone had an awesome holiday weekend! We had a small get together on Sunday and it was lovely. True story.

One of my four freshman college roommates {in Buffalo, NY} just moved to Cleveland to do her residency at Rainbow Babies and Children hospital. I’m so excited to have someone from that part of my life living close to me. She and her boyfriend came over on Sunday and it was so good to see them! True story.

We also have yet another Whitewater Rafting trip in our immediate future. We’ve been wanting to do this for a while and a great deal came up on Groupon that we just couldn’t pass up. So sometime within the next month and a half we will be heading back to West Virginia for an awesome weekend away! True story!

My mother is itching for grandchildren like you wouldn’t believe. NIM and her husband came over on Sunday as well. They brought their adorable little one {seriously NIM, if you want a night out, BF & I are babysitting!}. My mother oohed and ahhed over the little one. I was watching her to make sure she wasn’t going to steal her when NIM wasn’t looking. True story.

This resulted in my mother making even more comments to BF about when she was going to be a real grandma {instead of just to her “grandpuppies”}. True story.

Last but not least, I’m excited to announce that I will be starting a new job next Monday! I am really excited about feeling like a productive member of society again. Not that my current part-time job doesn’t count. It does, but it doesn’t fulfill me. True story.

That time that I was all “I’m gonna detox!” and then I ate a cookie.

June 8, 2010 by Rachel 7 Comments

Yesterday I was starved! I’m not blaming this on the detox. I’m blaming it on the fact that I had a peach, went to yoga at 9:15, and then, rather unexpectadly, I didn’t end up back home until 4:00PM. To be clear, a peach is not even enough to get me through my entire vinyasa practice, let alone a whole day. True story.

So then I ate pretty much an entire bag of baby carrots. Not enough. True story.

And then a fruit and ice smoothie. Still not enough. True story.

So then I gave in and had a glass of red wine and a lovely rugelach cookie. True story.

Did I fail? I like to think not. This detox isn’t about depriving myself of things, but just taking it easy on my mind and body while working through everything with a daily yoga practice.

Hope y’all are not too disappointed in me. But no worries as I am up already for my 7:30am yoga practice!

Namaste!

completely random true story tuesday.

May 18, 2010 by Rachel 9 Comments

Tonight I have my first Junior League of Akron event. It also happens to be their big, fancy, annual dinner. So I am going. Without knowing anyone. All by my lonesome. Hopefully this will be a good way to meet people.

True story.

But I’m pretty grateful that there will be alcohol availalbe {hello… nerves and anxiety of not knowing anyone.}

True story.

I just got back from running some errands. I had to stop by Target for hangers and highlighers {odd combo}. In addition, I bought 6 shirts. WTF.

True story.

And I’m going back to Target tomorrow to pick up some shelving for my belongings. I wanted to grab it today, but I was using a hand basket instead of a cart. And I was too lazy to go back and get a cart.

True story.

I made a dinner for BF last night. I wasn’t sure if it was going to be edible, and it turned out to be INCREDIBLE! I’m so proud.

True story.

{Vegans, cover your ears} I also cooked with chicken. Which is weird because I am afraid of meat. But this time I wasn’t. So weird.

True story.

I’m looking forward to going to yoga classes this week and trying out new teachers. They each seem to have something incredibly profound to say… like, exactly what you need to hear at that exact moment. It’s an incredible feeling.

True story.

I am getting back to being super consistent with blogging. But forgive me because I’m still about 700-deep in my google reader.

True story.

I sometimes find myself wanting to use hashtags, like #truestory, in non-twitter places. Like my blog. And texts. It’s strange. But I think it would be OK. 🙂
