monday mantra.

January 11, 2010 by Rachel 14 Comments

Happy Monday!… or not. Hope everyone had a great weekend. This was my ‘off’ weekend, or rather, the weekend between when I see BF.

We’ve been keeping an every other weekend schedule. So every two weeks we see each other. This upcoming weekend, I’ll be traveling to Ohio to spend some time with him. I’m very excited to spend some time with him!

That being said, I still have to make it through this week. Super.

This week I have every second of each day filled with things to do. I’m not sure if this is a blessing or a curse. Ask me tomorrow. We’ll see how I feel.

I believe in sleeping for as long as possible, even if this means going to bed unusually early (yes, I’m talking 7:30PM).

I’m addicted to chips & salsa. Not really sure where this came from, but it’s a craving that came on in full force for the last week. Oh well.

I wish that a wonderful job would open up for BF in Syracuse. Sigh.

I’m jealous of couples who live together. I’m a little sad this week.

Soundtrack/Mantra for the week: Breathe. Breathe. Breathe. You only need to make it until Thursday!

crossing my fingers…

December 16, 2009 by Rachel 16 Comments

I’m not trying to be a scrooge this holiday season. Sometimes it just happens.

This year is different. I have to travel back to Ohio on Christmas Eve this year. This could be a huge problem if the weather conditions are right (or wrong, depending on which way you look at it). If the weather is bad, I fear I will have to spend Christmas alone — something I have never done.

Many people have said, “you can spend Christmas with my family if that happens,” and, no offense, but I really only want to spend Christmas with my family. Thanks for your offers, but I really need to just be with family for the holidays (and by family, I mean BF–he is my family).

I know that worrying about the weather over a week in advance is not going to do me any good, but the thought of being stranded on Christmas Eve is overwhelming. And I am doing my best to arrange to get out of work early on Christmas Eve (which would put me back in Ohio around 6pm instead of midnight).

So if y’all wouldn’t mind, could you send me some positive vibes over the next week? And cross your fingers for good weather? I would appreciate it immensely!

weddings. pictures. and love.

Sorry I have been so absent this week! To keep you informed, yes I have found an apartment. And yes, BF came up to visit me this weekend.

It was BFs first trip to Syracuse. He came up to escort me to a wedding. He arrived around 6PM Friday. We quickly went to the mall so that we could pick up a couple of things for the wedding. After the mall we went to my favorite Chinese restaurant. I warned BF that the place looked sketchy, but he loved it. I knew he would.

We woke up early Saturday morning to head 2.5 hours north of Syracuse… Seriously… you could see Canada. Canada! I couldn’t use my cell phone (no tweeting or checking my email!?!?) because it recognized my signal as international (uber-charges…).

Yesterday was pretty much the hottest weather we have had all summer, but the wedding was gorgeous! I was all prepared to go the two dresses route, but at the last minute I found out that the reception was outdoors, which made my little black dress slightly inappropriate.

The reception was at the brides (my college roommate) parents’ camp house. It was incredible. The St. Lawrence river is amazing. They had everything brought in for the occassion. Even dueling pianos! How cool! The food was amazing.. and the bridal party, newlyweds included, arrived to the reception by boat!

It was a great night. BF and I spent this morning driving back. When we arrived back in Syracuse I showed him around more and showed him all of my favorite spots down near the university. We spent a wonderful weekend together and then he had to leave to drive back to Ohio. Luckily I should get to see him this weekend!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

the best sandwich in the world

July 6, 2009 by Rachel 10 Comments

As I posted on Thursday, BF and I decided to take a day trip to Pittsburgh to go to Primanti Brothers. We saw it on the show Man Versus Food and I had it stuck in my head that we would go there sometime. So away we went! Yes, I know… sounds silly that we went to Pittsburgh just for sandwiches, but it’s only a two-hour drive and it was a fun little road trip!

It turns out the people of Pittsburgh are not that friendly. In fact they were downright rude! I know we were not at Primanti Brothers for their service, but seriously… you can ask me what I’d like to eat a nicer way than “What do you want” while wearing a very classy uniform (sweatpants and a tank top). CLASSY for sure!

We took a ride on the Incline so we could see the whole city. It was really pretty (and I was a little scared... you know… the whole heights thing). We also stopped at Ikea! Neither of us had ever been to an Ikea store before (even though we have some of their products) and the only thing I have to say is — OVERWHELMING! Wow. I didn’t realize how overwhelming it would be to shop. So I bought nothing (or near nothing anyways). But I definitely want to go back sometime when I’m more prepared for the awesomeness that is shopping at Ikea.

All in all it was a successful trip to Pittsburgh! Our mini-road trip was lovely and I hope that many more are to come!

I have so much more to tell you about Pittsburgh, but I just do not have the time or energy right now! Promise that (along with the secret) I will post more about the weird (and furry) things about Pittsburgh soon!
