takeout

Back to the work week.

May 11, 2009 by Rachel 1 Comment

Here we go again…

So I can’t help but feel so cliche when Monday morning hits. Why is it that we ALL tend to feel like Monday is the worst possible day of the week? I mean, I get it. The weekend has ended, but why does Tuesday feel so much better? It usually equally sucks.

Anywho…
So I took a look at my little ‘to-do’ list for the weekend, and I accomplished a LOT!

–Star Trek was AWESOME. For real. Loved it! And BF bought some (greasy) popcorn, which I enjoyed thoroughly!

-After Star Trek we went out to Cheeseburger In Paradise, where I got a DELICIOUS drink and a GREAT burger (yummm to mushrooms & swiss!).

-We rushed to All Fired Up! to pick up the gals pottery before they closed! We JUST made it! I was semi-h
appy with the results… but it wasn’t my best work.

-We finally got home around 11PM Friday night and we pretty much went straight to sleep. We were exhausted.

-Saturday morning I had to drag BF’s butt out of bed so we would make it to our yoga class. My favorite teacher would be leading the class so missing it was not an option… We made it and we had a wonderful practice. BF really seems to like it. I am thrilled that he is taking an interest in something that means so much to me already.

-After our practice, I convinced him to run into the mall with me. Yes, we were sweaty, but there is only ONE mall in all of Northeast Ohio that has a MAC makeup counter and I am usually not near it. So we dragged our sweaty selves to the MAC makeup counter. I (quickly) made my purchases and headed out of the mall.

-Our next stop: Whole Foods Market! One of my favorite places! We were starving for some lunch, so we grabbed some delicious takeout.

-Before I knew it, it was Saturday evening! I headed with BF and his dad to get some dinner to celebrate BFs upcoming birthday (which is this Wednesday)! We went to a gourmet pizza place that we had never been to before. The pizza was good, the wait was FAR too long. For real. Seated and then waiting 45 minutes for our pizza to come?!? WTF. But they did sing BF happy birthday, so that was sweet.

-Post-birthday dinner we went to A&Bs to watch the CAVS game. Turns out the gals didn’t watch the game at all! We were busy gossiping, laughing and drinking wine! BF hung out with the guys (I am SO grateful he already mostly knows my friends and that he gets along with them so well). I drank just a little bit of wine 😉 It was a really good time and it was great to be able to blow off some steam. Plus I arranged to have A&B pick up an Ice Cream cake that I had ordered for BF. So he was very surpirsed about the singing of Happy Birthday and his very delicious Dairy Queen Ice Cream cake!

-Sunday morning I celebrated mom’s day with the fam. We went out to breakfast and then my sister and parents went to see the Cleveland Indians
game. This left me with a lot of time to get my own stuff done, uninterrupted. I cleaned my car (woo hoo! For those of you who have seen my car, you know why I am so happy about this) and I began some laundry. I also finished BFs birthday card. Which I don’t think I have mentioned is a Bday card/scrapbook card. I basically made a mini-scrapbook birthday card. I’m crafty like that. And I like to show him how much he means to me (I know, so lovey-dovey). So that is finished and I’ve posted some pictures of the final product!

-I did not have a chance to go to White House Chocolates and I was super bummed that I did not get my TigerButter fix! But BF got some for his birthday and shared some with me last night. When he leaves this week I’ll be home more and have time to stop by White House Chocolates myself!

-That being said, this week will be busy. I’m taking BF and his mom to the airport Wednesday morning. I am not at all thrilled about him leaving. I am feeling the first stings of jealousy (of my life!). That’s for another post tho… And I will be crossing my fingers regarding that job (that I STILL have not heard back about… GRRR.).

So here’s to another week.. and another Monday.

“There are three ingredients to the good life: learning, earning, and yearning.”
-Christopher Morley
So I have been ultra-scatterbrained recently. No matter how much time I give myself to do things, I never seem to have NEARLY enough time as is required. My existing position at work has been severely stressing me out. On top of that, I have still not heard about the potential J-O-B. Sigh. I am super stressing about everything. Last night I just randomly started to cry. I don’t know what’s worse: the actual change or the anxiety over not knowing about the potential change.

BF is doing a fairly decent job at trying to calm my anxieties, but I will continue to stress, I’m sure. It’s the way I operate.

Speaking of BF, we did go to a yoga class Wednesday night. It was his first “in class” practice, even though we have been doing yoga at home. I could tell he was a little nervous. So I took him to a basics class at Cleveland Yoga. So it turns out he thought it was a flow class (which are classes heated to 72 degrees). It was actually a hot class, which is heated to a steaming 85 degrees (+ a sweaty room full of people..). So he went through the whole class thinking “This is a hot 72 degrees.” I’m actually grateful that he thought it was the flow class cause I think he would have psyched himself out if he knew it was the hot class. But it was wonderful! He did awesome and we both felt great afterwards. And by great, I mean we were starving! So we hit up the PF Changs Takeout afterward!

So besides all this excitement, nothing has really been going on…

I do want to share some of my favorite things as of recent:

– Real Simple. For real, I have an obsession with this magazine/website. I mean, what slightly domestic (and OCD) chick wouldn’t be?!?

-My new Scrabble Apple! Scrabble on the go is awesome!! I have an obsession with word games. I love that the BF seems to be almost as obsessed (or at least humors me by playing Scrabble with me).

–This dress from J.Crew! I want it before the whitewater/birthday trip!

–Buttoned Up (and all other) organizing stuff!

domestic bliss.

Where has this week gone!?! Last night I literally had to ask myself, “What the heck did I even DO this week?” It seems as though the week flew by! I have been overseeing two trainings at work all week, and keeping pretty busy when I leave work.

OH! I almost got ran off the road by a crazy person with some serious road rage and anger issues. That was… terrifying! It turns out the police cannot actually do anything unless they witness the incident. WTF, police. Then what can you do?

BF and I were supposed to go to a yoga class Wednesday night, but that didn’t happen. He got called out for work after hours. It was a bummer. So instead, I went for a nice run outside. Running has been great lately. The only problem is, I cannot run on a treadmill. I hate it. It hates my body. It makes me ache in ways I never imagined possible. I’m not sure why this occurs when I run on a treadmill but not when I am running outside.

So Wednesday night when he got out of work, we went to grab a bite to eat from this local place I had never been to before. During our meal, I found out that he will be leaving to visit Denver with his mother on his birthday. I don’t know if it was the PMS or the stress (or both?), but I started to cry. It seems that birthdays mean more to me than they do to him. I suppose this could be his age, but I was temporarily broken-hearted. So bummed. I love planning birthday celebrations. And I’m aware that we are taking a trip shortly after he returns from Denver, but I was still so bummed. It made me uncomfortable to even be that bummed. Which then I realized that this was probably PMS-induced craziness. Sigh. The joys of being a chick.

Yesterday I ended up getting out of work an hour and a half early. I decided that since I hadn’t been to a yoga class in two weeks (the longest it’s been in a REALLY long time), I would go to an early afternoon yoga class in Hudson. It felt great! There were only a few people in the class, but I definitely kicked butt (are you allowed to say that about yoga? I dunno, but I did!). I had an awesome practice and my form was amazing.

After yoga I went over to BF’s and I cleaned myself and the house up! I decided to be very domestic and bake some cranberry-oatmeal-chip cookies! (BTW-Lately I have found the joy in domesticity). I also “cooked” (which really means picked up Chinese takeout). By the time I got home with dinner, BF had just arrived and was munching on a (still warm) cookie! So I dished out the meal and we sat down to enjoy it in front of the most recent episode of Real Time with Bill Maher. We love Bill Maher!

BF had previously agreed to come with me to see a friend that was bartending at a local establishment. So we made the journey. They just so happened to have karaoke going on last night. BF has never really heard me sing before, so I knew I wasn’t making it out of there without singing. And I rocked it! 😉

And now it’s finally Friday. Thank goodness! Tonight is the big girls-margarita-pottery nite! We’re going to grab some dinner and spend the night with Mr. Jose Cuervo! Should be a good time! I will keep you updated!

cautiously optimistic

April 23, 2009 by Rachel 1 Comment

I always get the crappy fortune cookie when we go out for Chinese. It’s inevitable. I’m unsure how it always seems to be this way. BF will get something like “You will have amazing things happen to you” and I will get “You won’t die today.” OK, so I’m being slightly dramatic. But seriously, when we first started getting Chinese together, I would get these really crappy fortunes in my fortune cookie while he got a really powerful and uplifting message. I was bummed.

To clarify hear, BF and I started dating in October 2008. I didn’t realize this prior to, but he is an addict to Chinese cuisine. Me? Not so much. I enjoy the occasional piece of sesame chicken (or vegan sesame chicken) but tend not to stray. So we eat a LOT of Chinese… and, without fail, every single time, I get a crappy fortune. I even hesitate when going to grab a cookie… is this going to tell me, yet again, how something good is not going to happen to me.

So Tuesday I picked up some Chinese takeout (Garlic green beans and Lo Mein! YUM!). It was delicious… and I really wanted to see what that cookie had in store for me… I finally decided to make the trip back to the kitchen to get it. And…

A new voyage will fill your life with untold memories.

Sigh of relief! I need a new voyage. And, in fact, I’m still waiting to hear if I will be taking a new voyage to a new city. Tomorrow is the day that I am supposed to hear about the job! Please cross your fingers for me!

I’m slightly nervous about where my life will be in just a couple of months!

Counting down the hours

April 22, 2009 by Rachel Leave a Comment

“Already I could feel my being turned. Instinct and intellect balanced equally. As in a wheel whose motion jars nothing. By the Love that moves the Sun and the stars.”

-Dante.

-Counting down til Friday. This is when I’m supposedly hearing about the job. Eek! Nervous!

-Severely bumming about my current work situation and lack of yoga lately. Blah.

-Trying to stay focused.

-Cannot book BFs birthday trip until I hear about the job Friday. Grr! I want to finalize these plans already!

-Fabulous Lo Mein for dinner. Way better than it has been lately. 🙂

-That’s, sadly, all I have tonight. How boring am I?? Ha.
