changes.

May 12, 2010 by Rachel 13 Comments

For those of you who follow me on Twitter, you probably noticed that something’s been… different… lately. Without getting into specifics, a lot has changed in the last week.

Not with me & BF, things are fine on that front, but pretty much everything else has… changed, let’s say.

First off I am writing this post in the middle of the day as I take a break from cleaning up the kitchen. I should be working, but I’m not.

Second of all, we have a new addition to the family. No I’m not pregnant, but we did adopt a sister for Oscar. Yes, it may be crazy to be just getting settled into our new old home, but it seemed like the perfect time once we started to think about it. Everyone is adjusting {me, BF, Oscar, the two cats}, so why not just add her to the mix now and let them all adjust at once? Perfect.

Oscar and his new sister, Pepper {Oscar is the black cocker-mix and Pepper is the white/brown beagle-mix; and I am the one without any makeup, so please ignore}

I wouldn’t quite say that Oscar and Pepper are getting along famously, but I’m confident they will be. Someday.

seafood, more seafood. and boots.

May 4, 2010 by Rachel 8 Comments

Thanks for all the great comments on part one of our Maine trip! Sorry it was so lengthy. FYI, this one will be too.

After BF and I checked into our hotel and took a walk to the beach, we decided it was about time to get our seafood on! I mean, that’s pretty much the joy of going to Maine, right? All the lobster you can eat?

So we headed to the Lobster Shack at Two Lights {which was oh-so-conveniently located about 3 minutes down the road from our hotel}.

This place was a must-see spot from pretty much everyone we spoke to. It was right on the ocean and definitely had character… and delicious food!
We each had a lobster roll boat, which consisted of the lobster roll {the bun in the back of the ‘boat’ with lobster and mayo}, fries and cole slaw. Delicious! So delicious that we went there the first day AND our last day in Maine! {True story}

Besides sleeping in in Maine, we also ate a lot more seafood.

BF with his lobster meal!

I wanted lobster, but I wanted to BF to enjoy his {if I would have gotten lobster too, he would have ended up pretty much shelling mine as well… as he always does… he’s fantastic :)}

We walked around the Old Port in downtown Portland and also went to Freeport to see all the Outlets. Well, specifically, the LL Bean Flagship store! We didn’t really buy much of anything {except for another yoga mat from Nike and a pair of shoes from LL Bean}.

{That’s a giant boot, folks.}

And we also stopped for whoopie pies. Dang those are good!

Portland, Maine :: Road Trip and Hello Hotel!

May 2, 2010 by Rachel 7 Comments

Our trip was amazing. Like, straight up incredible.

It only took us about 7.5 hours to get there.

Not bad considering the donut stop and multiple bathroom breaks thanks to my non-existent bladder.

BF and I packed up {I brought about 15 outfits for 4 days; BF brought a tiny bag for his week away from home} and headed out first thing Monday morning.

Our first stop was in Massachusetts. We went to Kanes Donuts, which I earlier discovered while drooling over watching an episode of something or other on the Travel Channel.

I’m not even a big donut eater. I mean, I can’t even remember the last donut I indulged in. But I like road trips with food destinations, so I thought, why not?

{Kanes Donuts}

We bought a half dozen of their famous, hand-rolled little gems!
{Delish!}

After we got out of the Boston area, we drove to our hotel.

I’m not sure if I told you how I heard about this place. It was part of a getaway boutique on RueLaLa. The hotel is generally way out of budget. Way out of budget. But we got a really awesome deal.

Well, BF said on the way, “What if it is just like the Holiday Inn.”

I started to freak. Thinking, “Oh my gosh. What if it is??”

Well it definitely wasn’t.

{Inn By The Sea, Portland, Maine}

Our room was incredible! I have never stayed in a five-star hotel before, and I’ve gotta say, I was extremely impressed. I would recommend the Inn By The Sea to everyone!

{I love this bed. True story.}

{I was taking a moment to just take it all in}

After we sat in shock and awe at our room got settled in, we went for a walk down to the beach. Yes, it was a bit chillier than we would have liked, but it was still incredible.

{me & BF}

Even these first few moments in Maine were fantastic memories.

Next up, part two of our Maine trip!

Hello, blog world. I feel like it has been forever.

Literally. For. Ever.

It’s been a crazy week so far. I’m probably going to be pretty much MIA until the weekend.

Hopefully all is well in the blogosphere!

I’ll leave you with a picture from this past weekend… smiling after the plunge because I had so much fun!

pictures of my (very clean) apartment.

November 8, 2009 by Rachel 20 Comments

So remember when I got my apartment back? And when I said I would be posting pictures of my lovely apartment? And then I didn’t? Yeah, well I remember.

And the reason I hadn’t posted pictures sooner… well, I just finished unpacking and organizing my apartment. I know, I know, I moved in at the beginning of September. I have no excuse for not taking any pictures yet. But really, I just finished bringing almost all of my stuff up from Ohio.

So this is a photo tour of my old and new apartment.

Let’s start with the living room.

{my little loveseat & my lovely pier1 curtains}

{another view. plus oscar puppy}

{view from the loveseat}

And next, the bedroom.

{view of room from the ‘hallway’}

{corner of my room}

{awkward 2nd ‘bedroom’ … or large closet}

Next, the bathroom.

{i like the color green}

{another view}

And the kitchen:

{wicker drawer set, Martha Stewart cupcakes, and Cookie Bible}

{stove/counter area}

Hope you’ve enjoyed your tour! It’s small but it’s cozy and I love it. I will be THRILLED when BF moves up here, and that means I will get to move and unpack all over again 🙂

weddings. pictures. and love.

August 16, 2009 by Rachel 14 Comments

Sorry I have been so absent this week! To keep you informed, yes I have found an apartment. And yes, BF came up to visit me this weekend.

It was BFs first trip to Syracuse. He came up to escort me to a wedding. He arrived around 6PM Friday. We quickly went to the mall so that we could pick up a couple of things for the wedding. After the mall we went to my favorite Chinese restaurant. I warned BF that the place looked sketchy, but he loved it. I knew he would.
(Photo credit: Me. Where we stopped for lunch. That’s Canada across the way.)

We woke up early Saturday morning to head 2.5 hours north of Syracuse… Seriously… you could see Canada. Canada! I couldn’t use my cell phone (no tweeting or checking my email!?!?) because it recognized my signal as international (uber-charges…).
(Photo credit: me. BF and I outside of the church.)

Yesterday was pretty much the hottest weather we have had all summer, but the wedding was gorgeous! I was all prepared to go the two dresses route, but at the last minute I found out that the reception was outdoors, which made my little black dress slightly inappropriate.
(photo credit: me. BF and I at sunset on the dock.)
The reception was at the brides (my college roommate) parents’ camp house. It was incredible. The St. Lawrence river is amazing. They had everything brought in for the occassion. Even dueling pianos! How cool! The food was amazing.. and the bridal party, newlyweds included, arrived to the reception by boat!

It was a great night. BF and I spent this morning driving back. When we arrived back in Syracuse I showed him around more and showed him all of my favorite spots down near the university. We spent a wonderful weekend together and then he had to leave to drive back to Ohio. Luckily I should get to see him this weekend!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
