Pepper
We are those people.
You know. Those people. The people whose animals have become their children. Or, as we like to call them in the land of “have-no-real-children,” fur babies.
It has gotten so bad that my parents refer to themselves as Grandma and Grandpa. And never a day goes by without a reminder that they have to be grandparents to fur babies because they sure as heck don’t have any ‘real’ grandchildren.
Recently “Grandma” bought the fur babies Halloween costume.
Grandpa thinks it’s ridiculous {and secretly, deep-down loves it at the same time}.
So before our trick-or-treaters came by on Saturday
we put the ‘kids’ in their costumes.
you are superheroes.
I don’t know how you have kids and stay sane.
Don’t get me wrong, I think I want kids someday. Hopefully within the next two years, actually.
But I can hardly keep my composure with two dogs and two cats.
They are exhausting! I keep yelling. I keep telling them to behave. I am constantly on the run. They are constantly trying to get our attention.
While we’re making dinner. While we’re watching TV. While I’m on the computer. When I’m in the bathroom {no joke, if I don’t let Oscar follow me everywhere he sits outside the door crying and trying to scratch his way in}.
I.am.worn.out. True story.
And for those moms who work and have kids? You are all superheroes.
In honor of all of you tonight, I’m putting the “kids” to sleep and snuggling up with a good book and a glass of wine while I play single “mom” tonight while BF is working late.
monday, monday.
This week is going to be busy! So much to accomplish, so little time!
Here’s how I’ll be spending this week:
1. working. that’s a given.
2. spending my lunch breaks reading. i really must do this. i ache for time to read. i feel like i never can find the time. it’s there. i just need to make it.
3. spending time with BF. it’s monday night movie night, so we will be heading to $5 theater night to see scott pilgrim vs. the world.
4. running. tuesday, wednesday, and thursday. running, running, and more running. i’m looking forward to this. a lot. no joke.
5. doing yoga. last week i fell out of my groove with the whole being deathly ill thing, but this week i’m hoping to fit in at least 2 classes. yes, only 2 cause i’ve got a crazy physical week this week.
6. dropping oscar and pepper off at grandma and grandpas house for the weekend {also known as my mom and dads}. they are going to spend some quality time with them cause we are going…
7. whitewater rafting this weekend! yep, heading to west virginia and the new river for a nice camping/rafting trip! it will be fun and exhausting.
the brightside of weekends.
weekends. in general. they rock.
sleeping in.
not having to pay for my coffee Friday morning because there was a man buying everyone’s coffee. incredible and inspiring.
although she is not having her best moment, the vet confirmed Saturday that Pepper is in great health. you know, except for that whole she’s-not-really-spayed thing.
watching a total of 3 movies this weekend: Sex and the City 2, The Other Guys, and When in Rome. {for the record, not at all impressed with SATC2.. except for the Aiden scenes cause I love him; The Other Guys was hilarious; and When in Rome was way better than expected!}
getting life organized. i not only did tons of laundry, but was able to clean, transfer over files from my sony laptop to my macbook, and prepare for the week to come.
finishing up week 7 of the couch 2 5k program. feeling incredible.
**don’t forget :: still have time to enter the Starbucks giftcard and mug giveaway here!**
hot hot heat.
It’s official. We’ve been hit by a heat wave.
Unfortunately I’m not just referring to the high temps in Ohio this week.
Remember when I introduced our newest addition, Pepper, the adopted beagle mix?
Well it’s been almost 4 months since that introduction. And we’ve had our share of growing pains.
We think her last family neglected her which left us with some behavioral issues that needed to be tended to. We’ve worked very hard to get her to be friendly with people and other animals, to much success!
However, the last couple of days we started to notice some strange behavior. She was extremely affectionate with Oscar, our male cocker spaniel/cavalier king charles spaniel. These two generally avoid each other like the plague {they have a friendly understanding to leave one another alone}.
At about the same time Wednesday night, BF and I looked at each other and pretty much said the same thing: “Do you think she might be in heat?”
To which we both answered our own question: “There’s no way. Her adoption paperwork from the non-profit assured us she had been spayed.”
But today we learned the truth. Poor little Pepper pup has not been spayed.
And she is most certainly in heat.
Although we should have realized from the massively swollen lady goods, larger-than-life nipples, and oh-so-frequent urination, it took some massive amounts of blood to solidify the truth.
On top of it, we are extremely angry with the adoption agency we used. Had we known she wasn’t fixed, we would have gotten her fixed immediately and avoided the unnecessary drama and expense {$28 for 30 doggy diapers!?! You have GOT to be jokin’ me.}.
So for anyone who has had female dogs, how long with this last? And what should we do about the adoption agency??
