weekend wrap up // July 10th thru 13th

July 17, 2014 by Rachel Leave a Comment

GUYS!! This weekend was amazeballs. Seriously.

Thursday —

After work I met up with some friends at the Nauti Vine Winery for my friend Cristin’s birthday celebration. Cristin and I nearly accidentally stumbled upon this winery a month or so back during a girls night out. The location is beautiful — it’s located on Portage Lakes in Akron. Super scenic for being in a (near) city setting!

csbday1

We laughed SO hard. SO much! My soul needed that. Fo sho.

nautivine1

Sidenote: When you go to a winery, it’s generally not safe to order their house-made beer. (The exception in this case being Cellar Rats brewery from Debonne). The beer was terrible. The laughs were awesome (and so was the wine — of course).

Chad & Ari were at a family function with our Denver family that night and we ended up getting home pretty much exactly at the same time (which means late night #1 for Moosh!).

Friday —

Friday I would love to say that we slept in. But that totally didn’t happen.Well, at least not for me. I woke up early to get a workout in and get some cleaning done. … and then Moosh slept til like 10:00 am. Aaaand we rushed out of the house to meet my cousin Maryssa to go bridesmaids dress shopping. For those who don’t know, my sister is getting married this October. I put off dress shopping until the last possible moment. But I’m happy to report my dress has been ordered for the last couple of weeks. And now my cousins’ dress is ordered too! Woo hoo! Mission accomplished! And it feels SO good! Gah!

Moosh, Maryssa, and I went out to BW3’s post-dress shopping where the food was bland but the service was hilarious. Our server came running out of the kitchen screaming “We got Lebron! We got Lebron!” Hahaha! He was like “Did you hear?” Yes, dear… my husband sent me a text right away.

Post-B-Dubs, Moosh napped for 2-hours (TGIF!). And then I took him to Babies R Us for a baby-registry extravaganza with my BFF. Moosh & I didn’t get home til super late (again). But he was a complete champ (again). And he slept in until 9:30 Saturday morning.

Saturday —

My mom and I went up to Lincoln Park in Tremont for Yoga Rocks the Park CLE. The morning provided beautiful weather for a beautiful practice.

Scott Sulper from Cleveland Yoga led our vinyasa practice for 60-minutes. The practice was warm, sweaty and fun!

The view from my mat….

… was awesome. Beautiful, bright blue sky and a giant tree above me.

It was great to connect with my fellow bloggers… Alicia, of Poise in Parma (left) and Jill, of The Year of the Phoenix (middle).

Props (and thanks) to my husband for some post-yoga fuel of grilled chicken, grilled asparagus, and quinoa! luau7

Saturday afternoon, Chad & I went to Whiskey Island for SC4k Luau on the Lake while my mom hung out with Ari. They spent some quality time together visiting family and we took selfies.

luau3
It was our first visit to Whiskey Island and we totally loved it! Only thing we regret is not bringing a chair! Oops! Lesson learned!

And again it seemed to be a mini-blogger meetup!

Kimberly (Smitten in CLE). Alicia (Poise in Parma). And me!

Kimberly (Smitten in CLE), Alicia (Poise In Parma), Charlene (Life in The CLE), Anna (Anna In The Raw), and me!

luau6

Matthew, Jen (Why CLE?), Me & Chad! It was our parents-day-out without the kiddos! Jen & Matthew have a teeny tiny 8-week old-ish baby at home, and we left Ari with Mimi for the day! It turns out Mimi & Moosh had TONS of fun on their own. They went to see some family and went out to dinner — just the two of them!

luau10

luau12

We snacked, we laughed, we cheered Alicia on in the limbo contest! … and we still beat Moosh & Mimi home from their adventure!

luau13

I didn’t tell Moosh that we stopped at his fave ice cream place, Mitchell’s in Ohio City on our way home from the luau! Their strawberry jalapeno is incredible PLUS it’s sourced locally! 🙂 Double win!

Sunday —

Moosh finally slept in! Thank GOODNESS! But this mama didn’t have that luxury. Nope. I went for my long training run and I rocked it!! Post-workout Moosh finally woke up and we all headed to the Indians Family Social Suite versus the White Sox!

indians1 The family social suite was awesome. Moosh was kept super busy with toys and coloring while the rest of us watched the game. PLUS it was another mini-blogger meet up! I finally got to meet Brad from Cleveland Food & Brews!

indians2

And this view! The view from the suite is awesome!

indians3

#Moosh! He thought the whole experience was kinda cool. Plus he got to meet Slider. Soooo there’s that.

indians5

indians4

…. and then we all needed a vacation from too much fun. Thankfully, today is our first day of our staycation and we have very little planned (woo hoo!). PS. I say that now, but I KNOW I’m going to make a ton of plans for the next 6 days! Ha!

Our VERY Busy 2nd Anniversary! // wrap-up

May 4, 2014 by Rachel 2 Comments

I’ve been meaning to post this for the last week, but life happens, y’all!

We were exhausted after our whirlwind travel weekend in Buffalo + Canada when we got home late Sunday. It took us a while to get our butts moving on Monday — but we both had the day off. Sure, we could have (should have?) rested. But we wanted to take full advantage of pretty much the most beautiful weather we’ve had all year in Northeast Ohio! And to celebrate our actual anniversary, of course!

Chad was able to make it to our last Spring session of story time, which I had been hoping he’d get to go to at least once. He got to see all of the adorable that is Moosh at storytime.

Something super random happened while we were there… Chad ran into a friend he was in Big Brothers Big Sisters with (she works at the library). They hadn’t seen each other in years (however I had seen her before but didn’t realize she knew my husband). She mentioned that her kids were on their way to the library with her sitter. Chad made a joke about us needing a full-time sitter and was she available. Not only is she available (and willing!) to start watching Ari for us, but she lives DOWN THE STREET. NO joke. Like, a 2 second walk from our house! Sometimes you’re in the right place at the right time, friends! True story!

After our library shenanigans we took a chance — we skipped Moosh’s nap and went straight to the zoo. Brave decision, friends! B-R-A-V-E! But the day was BEAUTIFUL. Seriously. 75* and not a cloud in the sky!

It turns out everyone in Akron decided to venture to the zoo. There was a line probably a couple hundred people deep just to buy tickets. I couldn’t have been happier that we are Akron Zoo members and were able to skip the line entirely!

We rode the carousel for the first time (because Moosh insisted — no joke). He was so excited. And then… not so much. But he clung to that penguin for dear life! Ha! zooanni3-1

Then Chad took him on the train (I promise we DID see animals! Ha!). He is OBSESSED with trains these days, so his excitement was adorable!

See? We saw animals! Or at least empty glass cages! Ha!

We nearly cancelled our reservation for our anniversary dinner out of pure exhaustion, but we really needed a night out at dinner by ourselves. We went to Nuevo Modern Mexican in Akron. We’ve been really looking forward to trying it out. It did not disappoint!

We sipped on some seriously tasty margs [made with juices freshly squeezed on-site], snacked on guacamole, and devoured our dinners in record time. It turns out we’re still trying to master the ‘slowing down’ to eat thing. Every time we eat without Moosh we eat like he might walk in and take our attention away from food any second.

It was an awesome second anniversary. I wouldn’t have it any other way. And we’ve officially realized that going out without Moosh is incredibly important, so we’re working in regular date nights! 🙂

weekly mantra // anniversary edition!

April 21, 2014 by Rachel 1 Comment

Today isn’t just any Monday — NOPE!

Chad + I are celebrating our second anniversary! In a way we were out celebrating all weekend.

Nonetheless, we are continuing the celebration today!

So this weeks mantra is to CELEBRATE LOVE! Seriously. Celebrate all love! And celebrate all stages of love! It’s not all rainbows & butterflies. But it’s all worth celebrating.

I Love Wednesdays //

March 26, 2014 by Rachel 1 Comment

My new shift not only provides me with some extra morning snuggle + playdate time with Moosh (#BabyAri), but I also get Wednesdays off.

PEOPLE! — A WHOLE DAY in the middle of the week… for me & Babycakes! Yayyyy!

We’ve definitely been keeping ourselves busy on our day off.

  • Workouts. L-O-V-E getting a workout in at the gym while Ari plays at the gym sitter for about an hour. Plus, after I finish my cardio, Moosh + I play in the indoor playhouse! He loves it. So do I!
  • Date night. OK. So technically we’ve only gone on one Wednesday date night. But it’s totally nice to have that option in the middle of the week. Cause let’s face it — we never ever went out on a Friday or Saturday. Ever. We’re much more inclined to go on a date in the middle of the week. We prefer that weekends are for pajamas. 🙂
  • Doctors appointments. Not having to use personal time/sick time/vacation time for a doctors appointment!? WIN! We’ve taken Moosh to the allergist, myself to the eye doctor and several other appointments, and then also appointments at home! Perfection.
  • Races! That’s right. There is a Wednesday night race series in the area. You bet your butt I’m going to run them!
  • Catching up on life. Most people don’t have off on Wednesdays. Which means I have a bunch of time to do with what I want need. Having a day in the middle of the week to keep our lives together is super helpful. Usually I end up cleaning the entire house from top to bottom.

What do you like to do on your day off?? And what would you recommend me and Moosh do on our day off?! Suggestions, please!
