Weekend Wrap Up // and a Weekly Mantra

February 20, 2017 by Rachel 26 Comments

Ya’ll! I am beyond — BEYOND — excited for this week! I’ve been very ‘mum’s the word’ about my world, as of late. But this week is going to be amazing! Not only does Ari have 3 karate classes this week [which is just beyond adorable], but I have an all-Ohio beer and food pairing event AND an event at the Vitamix store [insert 500 exclamation points!]!

All of this comes on the tailend of a super beautiful weekend that included movie nights with Ari, a trip to RetroDog after Ari’s karate class, dinner dates, and a family hike + climb at the Gorge Metropark! I mean, it was sixty degrees in February — in OHIO. Say, whaaaat?! The only thing that could have made it better would be if Chad hadn’t had to work all weekend. But lucky for me and the kids, we had Mimi + Poppy in town to hang out with us.

I’m grateful for opportunities and connections that blogging and social media have brought into my life. It may seem weird, but I’ve created awesome IRL (in real life) connections and friendships with SO many of these awesome women!

I’m so content when my children and I are on a schedule. Last week was so crazy busy, but we worked like a well-oiled machine. Sure, it was hectic; but it went by so quickly and with very few hiccups (considering).

I wish for the blessing of health this week. We’ve been semi-healthy as of late, but all of us have battled a cold or cough off and on for a while now. And I’d really just love — and need — everyone to be on their a-game, healthwise, this week.

I’m really happy that I was able to spend another weekend surrounded by love and family and sunshine. These silly weekends — the ones where nothing in particular is planned — are what truly make my heart happy.

Weekly Mantra:

This just feels really right!  Hoping to shed some negative energy and invite in all of the positive vibes this week! Anyone have tips as to how they stay positive?!

Life Lately + A Week In Review //

October 20, 2014 by Rachel Leave a Comment

Life since my little sisters wedding a couple of weeks ago (and my 30th birthday the day after) have been craaaa-zeeeee! I’ve had several blog posts about her wedding festivities half-written in draft form. But I just haven’t had the energy to finish them.

Life over the last week alone has been exhausting! Illness after illness after illness has hit our family in one way, shape, or form. If it isn’t us, it’s our sitters family. But this week I really took things in stride. There are things that happen that are beyond our control (ie: everything).

For instance, Moosh started coughing like crazy late Sunday afternoon. It came out of nowhere. Like, really, no where. He was fine. And then he wasn’t. He was coughing up a storm and screaming bloody murder. He was so inconsolable and I was so worried that I called my neighbor to come check on us. Chad wasn’t home and I didn’t know if I was freaking out for nothing. It turns out they did think there was reason for concern, but nothing that couldn’t wait until the morning. So first thing Monday morning our pediatrician got a call. And we had an immediate appointment. Followed up by a nebulizer for daily breathing treatments. 🙁 Bummer? Yes. But it totally helped him. Even if we did spend 2.5 plus hours waiting for the nebulizer prescription to be filled. (PS. Cranky, sick baby + 2.5 hours in a waiting room full of old people and medical equipment = almost my worst nightmare — it could have been worse, y’all. He could have been throwing up.).

sick
The rest of the week was just normal. Prepping for Ari’s big 2nd birthday, which was Thursday. And then, like clockwork, I got a call while getting ready for work Thursday morning. Our sitters 2 year old son was throwing up. 🙁 Bummer? Yes. But? That meant that I spent his whole birthday with him!

By the time the mister got home from work, the presents were wrapped and the festivities were set to begin! He loved his cake and his presents, but I’m not 100% certain he knew what was going on. But he DID know what to do with wrapped presents!! Finally!!

The next day was my normal day off from work. So Moosh and I slept in and then went to a local pumpkin patch for a hayride and pumpkin picking. It was hard to get him away from the other activities to actually pick out a pumpkin.

punkin
And when we finally did, he picked out a pumpkin that the dude decided not to even charge us for — he said it would rot within a week. Ha!

Oh well. We had fun.

Other notes from the weekend include a Moosh & Mommy hike at our local Metroparks. He was super excited to pick out lots of acorns and rocks to bring home to show daddy (yep – definitely a boy).

hike
Oh – and a notable 8-mile run. My first long run since the half marathon. It was rough. But I made it! The beautiful fall morning scenery definitely helped (and so did my running partner!).

run
And right after I completed my run, I registered for the Pittsburgh Marathon 2015!! A FULL marathon! AM I INSANE!?! I guess so!

So yeah. It’s been a heck of a week! Ups, downs, and craziness for sure. But such is life, am I right!?

Getting away…

May 5, 2009 by Rachel 1 Comment

So I’m ironing out the final details… but I was so excited to share this! Some of you may have heard that I am planning a trip for BF for his birthday. He’s actually going to Denver the day of his birthday and he’ll be gone for a week (which I am super bummed about, but oh well). But after he gets back, we’re going away for the weekend — our FIRST weekend getaway, by the way. 🙂

This is what we’ll be doing:

Friday morning we will leave for West Virginia. We will be staying at ACE Adventure Resort. When we arrive, we’ll set up our campsite! I’m so excited to camp! It has been ages since anyone has agreed to go with me. After our arrival we’ll be going to the Whipple Company Store and Museum, which is this old coal mine museum. Yes, we are starting the weekend out very mellow! But this is about as mellow as it gets! Hopefully the weather will be beautiful for the weekend, because throughout the weekend I hope to get some sun and be able to swim at the camp resort.

The plan is to take a Canopy (zip line) Tour Friday evening (at dusk). Which I am SO excited about! I’m hoping to get a beautiful view from the treetops while attempting to conquer my fear of heights!

Saturday morning we’ll wake up bright and early and head out on an 8-hour whitewater rafting trip. The last time I went whitewater rafting was a few years ago, so I’m definitely due for an adventure! I plan on being pretty exhausted come 6-ish Saturday night, so I’m prepared to lounge near the fire, s’mores in hand, of course! Sunday will not fall short of excitement either. Sunday we are going for a 1/2 day trip of Rock Climbing.

I haven’t decided if we’ll be staying Sunday night or not… He knows about the trip already because I had to get him to take some time off work, but I’m JUST as excited either way! Only problem is… what do I GIVE him on his birthday?? I. need. suggestions. HELP!

What a weekend!

April 28, 2009 by Rachel 1 Comment

I’m still exhausted from the weekend and it’s already Tuesday!

So today was a fairly busy day of training at work so I didn’t get to update this like I originally intended, so here’s the condensed version (gimme a break-I’m beat!).

I didn’t get a call about the job on Friday. I half expected not to because that’s just how things go. “HR will have it figured out by Friday close of business” can easily turn into a week. However, I made a last ditch effort “I’m very excited about this opportunity” call. So I was a little bummed that I would have to spend my weekend still wondering where my life is headed within the next couple of months. But, regardless, BF and I went to the Cleveland Indians game Friday night. It as great! The weather was beautiful and there was a fireworks display following the game.

I. Was. Starving. After the game. For real. I usually like to indulge in a game hot dog and/or beer, but couldn’t really justify the cos this time. So afterwards, we hit up Aladdins for some pita and hummus. WAY better than a stadium hotdog.

Saturday morning I woke up bright and early to go pick up some breakfast from Panera for us before we had to head to the Akron Zoo. Although I’ve been trying to kick my filthy Starbucks habit, I decided that the zoo was special occassion enough to justify the 4 bucks I spent on an iced latte (I can justify anything if I put my mind to it!).

So we headed to the zoo bright and early. We set up our table with the last five
Editions of EcoWatch Ohio, and settle in for the day. BF offered me some of his SPF 15, to which I kindly declined stating that my natural olive skin tone would allow for me to tan wonderfully. Our table was set up directly between two tables with giveaways. Let me tell you, people care a lot less about a newspaper if that’s all you have to offer. But we stuck it out for a few hours. We then walked around the zoo which was no nice.

After the zoo we are EXHAUSTED! The sun will do that to you, I suppose. Later that night we decided to go out for burgers and putt putt. The putt putt course was out of control, but really fun. We went to get some yummy Coldstone after putt putt and it ended the day wonderfully.

Sunday we were wastes of space! Too much sunburn will do that to ya! We went for a hike and picnic. BFs idea. The hike was exhausting but fun! We also spent a little time doing yardwork and grocery shopping. Followed by cooking a wonderful meal of grilled chicken and mango salsa!

Sigh! What a wonderful weekend. So happy. So so happy. 🙂
