Friday Five

Friday 5: Sleep Deprivation.

September 9, 2011 by Rachel 2 Comments

Eeek! This Friday 5 is right up my alley this week!

  1. When you’re having trouble staying awake, what are some things you do to make sure you don’t drift off to sleep?
All I need lately is a little caffeine to be wired for the whole night, so just a few sips off of a latte, and I’m good to go!
  2. What’s most likely to cause you a prolonged period of not enough sleep?
    Stress; stress; and more stress.
  3. When you’re going through a prolonged period of not enough sleep, what parts of your daily routine are likely to change, and how?
I’m likely to lay in bed more than usual, trying to sleep. Last week I hardly slept at all, and I wasn’t able to convince myself to get out of bed in the mornings (to go to the gym, or otherwise). I just stayed in bed thinking “if I just stay here a little longer, I know I’ll fall asleep,” but it never happened.
  4. Who in your life seems regularly to have not enough sleep?
Besides me? Probably the BF; because I’m always tossing and turning and waking him up! Oops!
  5. In what ways does your personality change when you go through a prolonged period of not enough sleep?
I’ve been… a handful lately without enough sleep. I tend to be overly emotional. Last night, for instance, I cried. Not enough sleep makes me extremely cranky. Blah.

I’m revisiting the Friday Five. I know it’s late on a Friday night (and clearly I’m incredibly cool, cause I’m blogging at 11:34 instead of being out having a silly good time), but it’s been a crazy busy week at work and I don’t have the energy to even think about the rest of my weekend, let alone revisit my insane week.
1. What transformation do you undergo on summer Fridays at midnight?
Every Friday night, as soon as I walk in the door at home, I am a whole new person! All of the stress from my work week is done and I’m ready to unwind. I don’t think about work again until Sunday night.
2. What super power do the kids in your neighborhood seem to have?
The power to be either incredibly cute or incredibly annoying. I should clarify: two kids in our neighborhood are adorable. I love them. All of the rest of them are bad and annoying. But the two cute ones always seem to have the funniest things to say. I really love that.
3. Who (or what!) is your nemesis in these warm summer days?
The extreme heat is my arch nemesis. I hate the overwhelming heat.
4. What is your trustiest weapon against the evil heat monster?
Frizz-ease. Seriously. Otherwise my hair would be out of control!
5. What seems to be invading your life lately, and how will you fend it off?

Mosquitoes. And work. Gosh darn work getting in the way of my life! 😉

friday 5: doing what it takes!

September 18, 2009 by Rachel 9 Comments

1.What does it take to get you to grab the mic and sing in a karaoke room?
Not very much. I love singing and I’m not that bad at it, so I will get up at karaoke and not stop!!

2.What does it take to get you to give up a whole Saturday to hang out with people you don’t like?
Is it a mandatory work function? If my job depends on it, then I will do it.

3.What does it take to get you out of bed without your hitting the snooze button?
I usually hit snooze once, but I’m already awake.

4.What does it take to get you to take someone else’s turn at a really unpleasant task at work or home?
Not much. People are able to walk all over me.

5.What does it take to get you to eat something you really dislike?
I’ll try it again (just to prove I don’t like it). It definitely doesn’t take much!

Happy Friday Five, y’all! BF will be here to visit any minute!

friday 5: bottles

September 11, 2009 by Rachel 7 Comments

The Friday 5: Bottles.

1.When did you last drink something out of a glass bottle?
Yesterday when I drank a bottle of Bud Light.

2.Whose energy would you like to bottle for those future listless days?
A lot of my fellow blogger ladies! Or maybe Angelina Jolie. I mean, she has to have a ton of energy to have that many kids and a career, right?

3.How many plastic bottles are there in your shower, and what’s in them?
Two plastic bottles. One is Shampoo and the other is conditioner. I’m travelling light these days!

4.Who in your life could be described as lightning in a bottle?
Full of spark and spunk? Who isn’t! All of my friends really.

5.You’re playing Spin-the-Bottle with your sixth-grade classmates. When it’s your turn, to whom do you want the bottle pointing?
Awww, I would like to think BF but he wasan’t in my sixth grade class. In fact, he was well out of high school at that point!

friday 5: taboo

July 31, 2009 by Rachel 14 Comments

It’s Friday and that means it’s time for the Friday 5! This week is a little different. It’s based off the game Taboo (this week only). So you have to answer the questions below without using the Taboo words. This should make this edition of the Friday 5 a little more interesting.

1. Who’s making a positive difference in your life? Taboo words: friends, family, husband/wife/spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend.
BF (that is his name in this blog, so I can use it) makes a difference in my life every day. He is so wonderful and supportive. But also, I am. I mean, ultimately we are all responsible for our own destiny, right?

2. Where would you like to be right now? Taboo words: home, bed, anywhere but here.
I would like to be sleeping. I just woke up and my allergies are killing me. Or spending another day off with BF.

3. What’s the first thing you’d do with a $5,000 (or your local equivalent) gift? Taboo words: save, debt, vacation, payments, invest.
I would reduce my student loans. There wouldn’t be much any left after that.

4. What super-power would you really like to have? Taboo words: invisibility, x-ray vision, flying, strength, transform.
I want to soar through the air like a bird.

5. What’s your favorite sound? Taboo words: laughter, music, ocean, wind, ____’s voice.
Giggling. And things that are whispered. Whispering is fun, don’t ya think? Especially whispers from that special someone.

So what are your answers??

friday five: usefulness

July 24, 2009 by Rachel 9 Comments

Here’s this weeks edition of the Friday Five.

1. What’s something in your possession that has long outlived its usefulness?
I would like to think that nothing I own has long lived past its time. I tend not to hang onto things that no longer have a use in my life. I also have a practice of every time I buy something new, I give something away to Goodwill.

2. Who in your life has proven to be a very useful person to know?
I think that social networking is an important part of a young professionals life. So… everyone!

3. For group projects requiring collaborative planning and then collaborative execution, in what capacity are you most useful?
I am an excellent planner and organizer. I can take charge like no other! In fact, I am such a perfectionist that I feel that I must be in charge. LOL.

4. What’s something someone gave you that you didn’t think much of but later became surprisingly useful?
I think that this happens all of the time. Often times people give us things or give us work that we take for granted until we realize the potential of what we’ve been given or what situation has been presented to us.

5. What is the most useful book in your house?
The Bhagavad Gita.
