House of Blues: Last Comic Standing Birthday Celebration!

October 9, 2010 by Rachel 1 Comment

Happy weekend, my loves!

Hope it’s off to a good start! I had meant for mine to start with blogging, but I ended up falling asleep pretty early last night.
It was probably much needed, so no complaints.

So the exciting extension to my birthday celebration was going to see the top 5 finalists from Last Comic Standing at the House of Blues!

Sidenote
: The House Of Blues in Cleveland is pretty much the most perfect venue I’ve ever been in. It’s small and gorgeous!
I don’t think there’s a bad seat in the house!

I had never watched any previous year, but this season I was hooked! I had my favorites, Myq and Tommy, and they made it to the top 5!

{Myq Kaplan}
We laughed so hard. I was a little bit sad because my favorite, the scrawny guy, Myq, seemed to be a little ‘off’ and was stumbling through some jokes. He mentioned something about drinking a lot prior to the show. He doesn’t seem like a drinker to me, but based on his performance,
I’d say he was probably putting back a few.

The second to last performance was my all-time fave, Tommy Johnagin. Not only hilarious, but really cute? Heck yes!

{cutie, Tommy Johnagin}
It was the most awesome birthday gift from BF!
And definitely thing we can add to our incredible memories!

Thank you all for the birthday wishes! I was too exhausted to thank you all yesterday!
My birthday was fantastic!

When I woke up, BF had put little gifts around the house because he isn’t usually awake before I leave for work. Which definitely made me want to just hop back into bed with him all day, but I forced myself to get my butt to work.

For my big birthday celebration, he took me to Vegiterranean, a vegan restaurant in Downtown Akron. We had been meaning to go here for a while, but timing had never been right or we always had something going on.

The food was fantastic! The restaurant serves cruelty-free vegan dishes.

I delighted in a little pre-meal, tasty beverage. I had a raspberry mojito and it was delish!

We started with the “Chrissie Promises Best Fries” which are a sweet potato fry served with house-made balsamic ketchup.

{pic via my iPhone… hence the poor quality}
For our main dishes we ordered the Mango BBQ Pizza and Spaghettini with Italian Vegan “Meatballs” with Scot’s House-Made Marinara!

It was delicious.

{Please ignore my cheese-ball face.}
So pretty much the most fantastic birthday ever!
More birthday celebrations tonight, but more to come on that later!

October dreams and goals.

October 3, 2010 by Rachel 8 Comments

A new month brings new goals!

October Goals/Dreams:

– Attend at least one yoga class per week.

– Celebrate my birthday in a meaningful way.

– Run my first 5k in about 3 years.

– Cook at least 2 dinners a week.

– Read 4 new books.

– Attend a sporting event.

– Run at least 60 miles this month.

– Spend much needed time with family.

– Continue to spend serious quality time with BF and the pups.

– Finally sort through my clutter from my move.

– Continue to stress less.

– Bake something new and adventurous!

Here’s a look back out my September goals/dreams:

– Finish the Couch 2 5k program and begin the Bridge to 10k program. Win! We finished mid-month!

– Attend one yoga class at Cleveland Yoga per week. Almost win. I attended three classes. I was away in LA rather unexpectedly for one week, so I missed class that week.

– Spend less time adding events to my planner and spend more time just living at home and spending quality time with BF and the pups. Most definitely a win. My priorities were very straight this month. Lots of QT with BF and the pups.

– Cook more food at home and spend less time and money eating unhealthy food while I’m out. Definite win. And I actually cooked this month! I never cook. BF does. But we shared this responsibility well this month! In fact, I smell something delicious cooking now.

– Go to the Akron Zips vs. Syracuse Orange football game. Lose. It rained that day, so we decided to stay inside that day. Not the worst thing that could happen, right?

– Sort through the clutter from my moves and sell/giveaway the unused items. Lose. I didn’t find (or make) the time.

– Learn to utilize all that my Mac Book has to offer. Lose. I didn’t even begin to do this.

– Find direction and put together a plan. In my own way I most definitely did this.

– Keep myself organized. I did OK at this. It could still use some improvement. Work in progress for sure.

– Read at least 4 new books. Lose. I didn’t even finish one! Ugh! Not cool.

– Stress less. Win. Definite win. I made every conscious effort to keep myself grounded and in the present. And it helped.

Happy Friday, my loves!

I feel like my weekend started last night {even though I’m working today}!

BF and I had a little bit of a date night last night. We grabbed some dinner from Sushi Rock in Beachwood. I had never been before.
And it was pretty dang good!

{image}
Sidenote: Do people say dang anymore? or is it just me? Cause I say it, like, non-stop. True story.

After dinner we went to a screening of the new movie Life As We Know It with Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel {swoon! and another sidenote: I never had a thing for Josh Duhamel until Transformers. I love, love, love Transformers so much that it’s hard not to love every character from it

{image}
The movie was awesome. I very, very, rarely say that about any chick-flick. Even BF loved it. It was actually really funny.
And, of course, I cried pretty much non-stop.
I have another opportunity to see yet another screening of this movie on Saturday. It was so good that I may actually go see it again.

the most wonderful time of the year.

September 30, 2010 by Rachel 16 Comments

How I know my favorite season is here:

1. Pumpkin everything. And. I. Love.it.

2. I no longer am getting funny looks for wearing 3 layers of clothing. Note: People do not think cardigans are appropriate summer attire.

3. We are five days away from my birthday. Yep, the big 2-6 is upon us!

4. I don’t recall the leaves changing color, but suddenly fallen leaves are all over our yard.

5. I want to do nothing more than cozy up with BF near the fire and watch awesome Fall TV, like Glee. Another sidenote: Holy heck I love that show.

6. We are thisclose to my fave holiday, Thanksgiving. Which means I am inches from going to Denver for the first time for Thanksgiving.

7. Football is back and the Bills are still losing, and I still love them. And I know have an excuse to drink beer and eat hotdogs on a Sunday again. Win!

8. Chili and amazing breads are back to being a staple in our diets.

9. Gray skies: they are just comforting this time of year.

10. Marking the anniversary of another year with BF. Yes, this just got a little cheesy. And now it’s done.

true story.

July 28, 2010 by Rachel 5 Comments

BF is out of town for work today and tomorrow. This is pretty much the first time we’ve been apart since I moved back from Syracuse. It’s going to be weird, to say the least, to sleep in a big bed all by my lonesome!

True story.

In an effort to make me feel better about the fact that he was going to be gone
{and so that I wouldn’t fret about what to eat for dinner tonight},
BF took me out to my favorite Mexican restaurant, Mariachi Locos, last night. I will be eating those leftovers tonight! Woo!

True story.

We didn’t realize it was 1/2 price margarita night on Mondays. Bonus!!

True story.

Completely unrelated
{both to the Mexican food and the marg},
I have been getting severely sick lately. Last night I woke up terribly ill around 1:30am with stomach pains until 6 this morning.
I have no idea what is causing me to be in such pain, but something is.

True story.

I went to Trader Joe’s on my lunch break to splurge on some macarons. It was completely worth it. They are delish.
