monday mantra :: keep calm and have a cupcake

October 19, 2009 by Rachel 9 Comments

This week is going to be busy!

I believe in me!

I’m addicted to staying busy.

I wish that this sick feeling would go away.. I cannot get sick right now.

I’m jealous of people who get to sleep in… still. ALWAYS.

Soundtrack/Mantra for the week: Keep Calm and Have a Cupcake.

please prepay in advance??

August 26, 2009 by Rachel 18 Comments

So unfortunately there are no updates to my 101 in 1001 list. I assure you though, I will be knocking things off my list left and right later this week! (Umm hello! NYS fair!)

So I have been really good and have been waking up at 4:30am (yes, you read that correctly. AM. Like, in the morning).

{by the way, does it bug anone else when people say “see you at 8AM in the morning”?? It’s a peeve of mine. Yes… we know in the morning… cause you said AM. And when gas pumps say “Please Pre-Pay in Advance.” Hmm. Pre-pay? Advance? Slightly redundant, no? oops. went off topic.}

So knowing that I need a break every now and then, I plan on going out with some friends tonight for a little event called Party on the Patio. It’s basically a pay ten dollars for all you can eat and drink. They have all kinds of cookout food — hot dogs, hamburgers, ribs, chicken, macaroni salad, potato salad, etc — and unlimited drinks. I can’t eat or drink much, but I have fun anyways.

And to clarify about Monday’s post, no I do not plan on going through 4 huge tubs of hummus not by myself, at least. CGirl went a little crazy and bought a few and I brought one (notice I only bought ONE!) back from Ohio with me. I guess we’re buying hummus like it’s going out of style or something. Who knows.

Last thing! Jessi from Jessi Bob and the Monsters left me the Honest Scrap award! I know I’ve posted this award before, so I am not only going to link back to that post, but also give you 10 new amusing pieces of info about me (lucky you, right?).

1. I do not like balloons. Thank you, dad, for making me watch the movie IT when I was 5.

2. I am obsessed with Showtime and HBO original programming. Weeds, Dexter, Californication, Entourage, Big Love, and what used to be the L Word and Queer as Folk, to name a few.

3. I have amazing will power against food. I will get a candybar (never buy them, they’re always just given to me) and I will say “sure I’ll eat it.” But then I leave it on my desk (or in my purse). Stare at it. Think about it. Talk myself out of it. It will literall stay there for months. Until I throw it away/give it away to a good home!

4. I can’t think of anymore interesting things right now. So you only get 3. 🙂

remember to breathe

August 14, 2009 by Rachel 9 Comments

Holy no posting week! I have hardly had a second to breathe, let alone read posts or write them. I’ve just gotten myself caught up with all of your lovely posts and now it’s back to business… Me. Just playing.

So what in the world has been going on (other than not posting for Totally Awkward Tuesday, not updating on 101 in 1001 list, and not doing this weeks writers workshop (which by the way, I’m super depressed I missed these)?

Wednesday I went out for sushi with my heterosexual life partner, Emily. It was fantastic and I had a great time catching up. I haven’t seen her in 2 years!! I’ll be seeing her a lot more.

Thursday after work I met up with my friend, G, to get some hotdogs from a local restaurant, Heids (I forgot how much I missed this place)! Then I went to the Beginnings II to watch the volleyball leagues. It was wonderful.

Today, BF is coming! I cannot wait!

And, last, here are some awards I have received over the last week (sorry for taking so long to post and acknowledge!):

Thanks to Heather from Live.Love.Laugh for the Social Butterfly award!

Thanks to Southern Champagne Wishes for the You’re a Gem Award!

Thanks to Weekly Jules for the Super Scribbler award!

I pressed for time this morning so I’m passing this on to all of my readers! 🙂 Have a great weekend! 🙂 I promise I’ll update you ASAP!

So what have you all been up to this week!?

Second, the recipient has to pass along this prestigious award to 10 more bloggers.
Third, those 10 bloggers all have to be notified they have been given with this award.
Those 10 bloggers that receive this award should link back to the blog that awarded them.
“The Honest Scrap” award.
Here are my self evident truths:

2. I have moved about 10 times in the last 8 years.

thoughts, lists, and awards

July 13, 2009 by Rachel 9 Comments

There is so much on my mind on this crazy Monday morning. But it’s been a successful morning thus far! This is my (mostly) lame attempt at coming to grips with life on this beautiful Monday morning.
I woke up really early this morning to go for a run. Got a nice 2 and a half mile run in. It was a great feeling of accomplishment before the rest of the world woke up.

I must get my 101 in 1001 list done today. I’m giving myself a deadline. And it ends tonight!

I’ve been really thinking about all that I have to get done within the next few weeks. So here’s a sort of mini-list:
-find a new/used car.
-look at my 401k.
-visit the bank and make a deposit.
-book a hotel for S&S wedding.
-figure out what I can do for a going away party.

Last but not least! I received an award late last week and have not had a chance to acknowledge it yet! The Fabulous Brunette at Ramblings of a Fab Brunette gave me the MeMe Award! The award is all about the fabulous me! So here are the rules:

1. Share seven tidbits about myself.

2. Share the award with seven blog friends!

About me:

1. I love baking. Cookies, cakes, cupcakes, etc. Love it. But I rarely eat the desserts that I make. I would rather give them away and share them with people.

2. I don’t really eat chocolate. Once in a while (like last night) I’ll eat a little truffle from Godiva, but not very often.

3. I have an obsession with going to the movies. There is something very magical about movie theaters. I love everything! The opening credits, previews, the smell of the most unhealthy buttery popcorn in the world! It’s all amazing. Which is why if you read often you know that I go to the movies about once a week.

4. I am slightly OCD about organizing and organizational products. So I have to planners and I’m always browsing Real Simple magazine for more organization ideas.

5. I’m a huge advocate of power yoga. If you aren’t sure of what power yoga is, visit a previous post here.

6. I’m hosting my first blog giveaway. I’m giving away a monogrammed wine glass from the Preppy Polka Dot. If you haven’t entered yet, you really should.

7. I’m training for my first half marathon. 🙂

Seven fabulous bloggers are now tagged:
1. K13 at Someday I’ll Get There.
2. City Girl at City Girl Lifestyle.
3. Alexa at Cleveland’s a Plum.
4. Dawn at Thoughts From Along the Broken Road.
5. Domestic Goddess.
6. Carolyn at Hang On Little Tomato.
7. Lil Woman at Little Woman, Little Home.

Happy Monday, y’all!
