the love of girlfriends ♥

May 25, 2014 in friends

Sunday, after our big day out with Thomas, I met up with some high school girlfriends for dinner. We don’t have a chance to get together often, but when we do things just seem to fall back into place.

I’ve known these 5 girls for most of my life. We’ve all managed grow up and lead fairly normal and average adult lives (each of us has had our ‘moments,’ that’s for sure!). Many of us are married, have children, and careers. A few of us have lived out of state for long stretches of time. And all of us have lost touch at certain points of our lives. ALL of us.

But some things never change. We’ve always been close. Most people, especially women, grow up and grow apart from their childhood friends; but not us. And that’s real-life friendship. These girls are truly my sisters from other misters!

We ate dinner, chatted, and caught each other up on our lives. It was as if it hadn’t been nearly a year since we’d all been in the same room. And that is… well, incredible. And somewhere between dinner + coffee I realized that I never have to worry about being judged by these girls. I never have doubts over whether or not they are true friends. We may disagree on things from time to time, but that’s the thing about family: You get mad at each other and then you get over it. Because you love one another.

On that night we decided that we wouldn’t let another year pass before we were all together again. We are going to make time in our busy schedules for a girls-only (that’s right – no kids; no husbands!) day-date once a month.

And no matter where life takes us, I have no doubt that we will continue to be family. <3
